I don't know what it is but the pool water at both LA Fitness I go to is complete torture to swim in. Every time I swim there for about a day afterwords I get acute inflammation of my sinuses, sneezing attacks and bad nasal dripping. I have been swimming my entire life and I have never experienced this until now. I also have a membership at another pool and I have no problem swimming there. Does anyone have any idea what it is they do to there pool to make them so bad?

I swim at LA Fitness in north Houston and I have had some of the same issues.  I have been swimming there for about 3 years and I have just recently started having these issues.  I sneeze for hours after every swim and it drives me crazy!  I thought maybe they recently changed chemicals, but I've never experienced this at any other pool.

Hi, same thing for me at the local LA fitness. I am so grossed out by the 2 LA fitness pools I have tried! I have sneezing attacks for hours after and have had several ear infections from them as well. When I swim in the local outside community pool I get nothing!Happy training...alicia

That's weird - I have been swimming there for years, no problem.  I go to several different locations in the Twin Cities. I wonder if different areas treat the pools differently.

I can't speak for the LA fitness pools but I use several different pools in my area and they affect me differently. And more specifically, I've noticed that when the pool is particularly crowded (summer especially) they up the chemicals and I cough for hours afterwards.

A lot of the bad chemical reactions are due to the combination of the chemical treatments and the fact that most people don't shower before getting in the pool. Our sweat, perfumes, deodorants, etc combine with the chlorine forming irritating particles. A Russian friend of mine told me that she never has these problems in Russia because you MUST shower with soap before entering the pool.
