Swim
Comments: Wow, am I ever happy with this time. I was in the second wave of the swim. Had a good amount of time to warm up in the pool while the first wave was swimming. This is so important for me, it takes awhile for me to get in a rhythm. They had us line up according to our assigned numbers, I was 4th of 10 swimmers in the lane. I think I passed one person on the first lap, then on the second I got passed. But the guy that passed either really slowed down, or I sped up, cause I was immediately on his feet. I was able to pass him in the middle of the lap. Toward the end of the next lap, I passed a guy at the wall, and then I realized--I was ahead of everyone! Not that it made a lick of difference to anything, but it was a psychological boost to be 'the first out of the pool'!! I had no idea of my time, but I was feeling much like I felt on Monday, kinda like I might puke, but this time I was able to run the whole way to transition, so that is good. Didn't find out until the end of the day how much faster this swim was than Mondays. What would you do differently?: Not much--got a good warm up in. Had to breast stroke once or twice when I was crawling up people's feet and couldn't get by, but otherwise freestyle the whole way. Transition 1
Comments: This felt a bit slow, I felt somewhat foggy again. Just need more practice I guess. I'm fine with the time, just would like to be able to do it without having to think too much. What would you do differently?: Keep practicing. Bike
Comments: This was a fun bike. There are always cyclists in the park on Sunday mornings--the fast kind ;-). I didn't really know the route at all; although I have been to Stanley Park a hundred times, I never really paid attention to the road, and I don't think I have ever been to Prospect Point. So I am catching up to these 2 cyclists who are just kinda cruising along. As I pass, I tell one guy that I hope my calves grow up to look like his. Cyclist's calves are so pretty...Anyway, I'm feeling all proud of myself for passing these guys (in spite of the fact that they were just having a Sunday stroll, not really training at this point), when we get to the bottom of THE HILL. And there they go by me like I am standing still. Along with several other cyclists. At least one had the kindness to say "looking good" on the way by! Got to the top, and then it was a lovely 1km downhill, on which I hit 53km/hr, to end the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Pretty happy with my avg speed. Transition 2
Comments: No issues. Run
Comments: First lap and a half, I was running side by side with another woman. We were very evenly matched for pace. About halfway through the second lap, I picked up the pace a bit and finished strong. Once again, very happy with my run. What would you do differently?: Might have picked up the pace a little sooner. I think I don't give myself enough credit for how much I can push. Post race
Warm down: Lots of stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Still getting to know how much I can push on the run. I am learning something from each race. Event comments: Very good beginner race. Fun time, good cause. Last updated: 2012-05-21 12:00 AM

Beautiful morning. Got checked in, body marked. Went for a short run, mostly to test my calf. Felt ok. Set up transition, then hung out for a few until they called the pre race announcements. Saw Marie just as they were finishing up--so sad she couldn't race.
