I have no idea what the number is.  I bought the bike in November and it came with Vittoria Rubino Pro Slick tires on it.  I've currently got 537 outdoor miles on this set of tires.  I have a separate wheel/cassette/tire for the indoor trainer.  At what point should I start thinking about replacing the tires?  I would hate to be close to the limit when my A race comes up this season (Augusta 70.3 at the end of September).

I've flatted a new tire the day I got it, and I've had other tires for nearly an entire summer.

Inflate the tire to operating pressure and look down the crown of the tire. It'll flatten out long before you have to change it. Pay attention to the little air bubble looking things in the rubber, those are wear marks.

When your tire looks almost squared off and you start getting flats regularly it's time to change out the tire. You'll probably wear out the rear tire first. For me it's about two rear tire changes for each front tire change.

Over 4000 miles on one set of gatorskins now on my road bike. I keep checking them for cuts and such but they are still going strong. When I switch bikes my tri bike feels so much faster.

Maybe 2500 to 3000 miles.  I sometimes don't put iffy tires back on even though they may have another 500 miles in em.

I ride mine till the threads show. I've done this twice not on purpose but just because I didn't notice till a buddy pointed it out. I'm kinda lucky th flats as my last two have been before I even left the house. Also, I don't run race tires or anything fancy so I get around 2500-3000 miles out of mine

My tri bike has the same tires and over 2,500 miles, still working fine.

It depends on what type of riding you're doing.  If you're riding pretty much in a straight line, your tires will likely last a long time.  If you're doing a lot of turns at speed, where you're leaning hard into turns, your tires will wear much faster.

I got 4,500+ out of a set of bontrager racelites until the threads on the rear tire started showing with only one flat.  The metal in the tire on that flat would have punctured my commuter armadillos.   I never had a problem in a race but I also never had a problem during training.

Replaced 'em with a set of Michelin race pro 3 this month and am wishing I had done it a long time ago.   The new tires are smooth as butter, quiet and fast.  Please don't tell my accountant that I spent more on bike tires (per each)  than I did on the tires for my P.O.S truck.

Too much variability to give you a good answer. Depends mainly on the tire, but also PSI and road conditions.

Some may last only 1000 miles, others may last 5000.

If you pick the ideal tire, the continental GP4000s, you will get roughly 3000 miles.

Plus, they have a way cool wear indicator so you know when they need to be replaced.
