Ironman 70.3 Steelhead : Official Thread

I'm signed up...trying to get a Kona validation.  If I can pull it off this weekend at BSLT I will probably skip Steelhead.  But, I doubt I'll manage this weekend so I'm probably coming to Steelhead.  I too hope for the full thing. :D

I don't have any travel arrangements or anything...waiting to see how this weekend goes.

I managed to validate my lottery spot at Buffalo Springs Lake this past weekend, so I no longer need to do this race.  Normally I'd still want to, but I would rather put the money towards Kona.

I sent in my request for the partial refund today.

I have heard this a bad race for transport.  Sadly I don't have a clue about any of it yet.  I do hear the beach is a great place for kids to play during the race.  Good luck and keep us posted if you find out any good information.

South Haven state park is closest to the north.  Warren Dunes state park is about 25 miles to the south.  Weko beach in Bridgman is a smaller camp ground in Bridgman. 

Btw, Theresa, your racing schedule looks uber impressive!  You are going to be one tired lady at the end of that list!

I rode the bike course this morning and here are a few observations. 

 Somewhere between 8-10 miles on M-63 there is a huge hole that is not marked and not filled in yet.  It's about the size of a dinner plate and deep, if you hit it you'll lose a tire and maybe damage a wheel.  It's near the bottom of some of the rolling hills but you can see it well in advance if you watch.

About 5 miles of CR 376 has been recently chip/sealed and it's bumpy!  After the chip/seal the remainder of 376 is pretty bumpy but the good news is that's the worst section of the course.  There are a couple more sections of chip/seal but its much more managable.

The rest of the back roads are bumpy in spots but otherwise okay. 

It's a good idea to check your speed when crossing over M-140 (2X), it's been pretty bumpy in years past and that's been a collection point for water bottles and other equipment that falls an unlucky person's bike. 

Save a little for the last 18 when you make your turn south on Blue Star, some of those hills can be a pain.

Hi all! I pulled the trigger on this event as soon as it became available; it was supposed to be "The" event of the year for me, the crowning jewel of my second year of multi-sport, with everything else just training for it. Unfortunately I did something to myself, over training maybe, early in the year and it has come down to "The only" event. Last year's "Event" for me was an Olympic distance event so there is no way I'll be prepared for this; all I've done this year is PT and watch my scheduled events go by without me being able to participate.

I miss participating very much. I have never considered myself a 'triathlete' like most of you are but this year now that it's all been taken away I realize that what I had accomplished was special enough. The past few months I've envied the joggers and bikers I see; I have never been hurt like this before but I am getting closer to normal, very close. I plan on being there come 19 August and I'm making plans for the day. I ordered some aerobars for my bike as well as a hydration system. Purchased swim goggles to replace the ones I lost. Now I'm writing this, a mental task: Queme los Barcos! Good luck everyone!
