Swim: choppier than some lakes, even on a calm day. There were one or two years where it was pretty bad, relatively speaking. Kind of weather dependent. It's a big box (the swim course...the lake itself is a big bowl, hence the chop). On the upside, the water is often pretty warm.
In 2009 they shortened the swim for all waves except the Elite to 1/4 mile due to 2-foot chop form teh N wind. I have never seen so many poeple hanign onto kayaks.
Bike is rolling. Standard MN countryside. Used to be some bad pavement sections, but I think all of those have been fixed. No weird turns or jots or freaky sections.
I liked the bike course with the rolling hills. In 2009 it was almot into the wind the whole first half and flying-fast with the wind on the return except for the last leg back into transition.
The run is oddly difficult, IMO. Maybe it was b/c it was always ended up so it was my third race in like 13 days...but that hill at the cemetary, and then in town were just rude.
Agree. I thought the run was tough with the long uphill stretch (and into the wind my year) right out of transition and the steeper section at the cemetary.
