Subject: Dumbest idea you ever thought of while running

Okay...whenever I am out on really long hot runs, my mind begins to wander.  At mile ten or so, its more of a drunken stagger.

I think about the dumbest stuff.  And, by dumb stuff I mean really great ideas that are so monumentally great that I can't wait until the end of your run to enact them; but in reality turn out to be monstrously stupid once my brain comes back to reality.

Whats the dumbest thing you every came up with during a long run?

Me First-  I had the "great" idea that I would call all my buddies from high school in and talk them into running a 4th of July race. The hook was that it's THE local race in our area and a lot of people we all know show up for it.

In the last year or so a few contemporaries have died (I am 46) so I thought that we could all get together and run  in memory of them.... and get t-shirts with a club name and the in memory names on them..... and run as a group like the Marines do....except that we'd be running as a group from one high school class remembering those that have passed from our high school class in the race that attracts many of the local high school run.  In my mind it was THE AWESOME.

There was five months to train for it, so anybody who was out of shape could pull themselves together for a 4 mile run.

So I called a buddy who I thought would be receptive.... "nah my knees hurt"

Another buddy....    "Too far"

Another.... "Ehhh  that sounds retarded"

It was THE FAIL.

Note to self.  When you get big ideas on the long run.....put them in the vault.

I totally invented a snowboard binding that would allow you feet to be moved close together when you launched up and out  of a half-pipe.  While in the air, you would then be able to get more full rotations on your trick because your feet were together.  Then before you land, move your feet back out.  BOOM nice stable landing after your double 1280 earth shattering maneuver.

I'm still waiting for Shawn White to get back to me...

To run only on my toes for the last 3 miles to strengthen my calves...

I regretted that idea for about 2 weeks.

Man, someone took the whole anti-heel-strike thing a bit far.

My dumbest idea running? "Hey why not bike and swim too?"

I came up with a race idea, (it may already be an actual thing, I do not know)

But I wanted to put together a mystery race, meaning I would advertise that the race could be anywhere from 3 miles to 10 miles, you would not know until you crossed the finish line. Thought it would be cool to see if people still crashed out or if they were able to maintain their pace throughout.

How about I just stop and walk for 1 minute. Then I'll hammer out the rest of this beast.

Haha I'll jump in with you so you don't feel so bad.

When I got my first pair of Newtons I thought you weren't supposed to touch your heel at all. So I ran for a few months never touching my heel down. Talk about some monster calves! But good lord they were tight as rocks and hurt all the time!

I was out on a longer run, maybe 14 miles, I saw a little person walking and thought to myself (I could take him in a fight).

I can hurdle that  bush........

I should tie the dog to my waste while I'm running down the side of this rocky mountain.......

I can totally clear that creek bed......

I should probably stick when I hit that gravel.........

Running in the heat will help me get used to running in the heat.

OK, I am totally guilty of this.  I am glad I am not the only one who thought this was a good idea at the time!

It seemed so logical at the time.
