Subject: RE: swimming area / 2nd & Bayshore in Long Beach Haha, Great place to get in some training time. I like it due to its very safe nature, there are almost always other swimmers in the water, or folks on the street. I have never seen any wild life in the water there. Its a great place to get in some cold water experience in the winter time, BRRRR! Although the water can at times be kinda 'greasy' and have a petroleum smell but that is the nature of being in the water near all those boats. I do have a question though, anyone swim in the ocean off the parking lot outside the bay? Looks like a nice long arse stretch of beachline with mild surf conditions? I live up in Ventura now and swim out of Carpenteria. The mileage is virtually unlimited, your out in open ocean water about a 100 or more yards from shore. We have sting rays, dolphins and great whites we swim with. The sharks are juveniles and have not hurt anyone in recent memory, they just enjoy munching on the sting rays. 2 weeks ago we had a pod of about 15 dolphins swimming around us, pretty awesome yet a little scary. They are pretty damn big when they get up close, lol! I still like to drive the 80 miles down south to the LB location to meet up with my OC friends a few times a year. |
