So....anyone eat there today or plan on going today?

I started the poll last time (before it went 14 ways to Sunday - pun intened there). Let's try to keep this on subject.

I have a dog in the fight, but didn't want to disclose last time. A great friend of mine (Godparents to my daughter) owns 2 CFA's here in the Dallas metroplex. While he can't give me any figures, he just texted me that they "beat their day" by 9:30am. They have been packed all day, constatnt lines (police directing traffic at one hot spot), and no protestors.

Knowing this was coming they were prepped for the onslought of people and had extra supplies on hand. He also disclosed that they may not have enought, even though they had about double what they normally serve over a holiday weekend.....which is a crazy amount to start with.

I have no plan to eat there today or any time in the near future. I like their food, the service is always good, and the staff very friendly, but I just can't financially support a company that openly and proudly gives significant financial support to organizations that I believe are working actively to deny rights to American citizens.

Honestly I have no intentions of going today or really any other day.  I can't promise I'll NEVER go to one again because if I'm caught in the middle of the desert about to whither away from starvation and I come up on a CFA, I'll probably eat there, but they have moved themselves to the very bottom of the list.

Does everything have to be a freaking crusade these days?

I probably completely disagree with the politics of nearly all the actors in the movies I see and bands I listen to. But unless they're really in my face about it, I'm prepared to divorce their views from their talents (it also helps that I'm one of the few who think that Sean Penn is a really atrocious actor.)

If you like their chicken sandwiches, go eat there. If you don't, don't.

They have a right to free speech, you have a right to not eat their food. Hey, we've all got choices. Ain't America great?

Where I have a HUGE problem, though, is when government gets involved such as in Chicago and Boston. Really, Mr. Mayors? You're going to use your powers as elected officials to to actively work against a private business for exercising its First Amendment rights in support of the law as it currently stands? Sorry, that's waaaay over the line.

Yes, politicians shouldn't be allowed to ban a company because of its CEO's beliefs. The fact is some people will eat there because of the company's CEO said and some will not. But let the free market sort it out -- we don't need to legislate this.

I thought they both backed away from this because they knew they had a lawsuit on their hands.  By backed away I mean they still said what they said, but as far as any REAL action like denial of a permit or something, they backed off of that?

Sure, but it scares the carp out of me that threatening to use the force of government to retaliate against a private business because they disagreed with their beliefs was their first inclination.

I'm on no crusade, I just like to distinguish between opinions and millions of dollars in donations.

I went to eat there for lunch, but the line was way to long for me to wait. There were at least 150-200 people in line and I had to get back to work.

there is always dinnertime though.

I agree that shouldn't be the case, but it HAS been the case for years and years on both sides.  So the reality of the situation would appear to be that you can discriminate as long as you don't get caught.  and in order not to get caught, don't announce in the newspapers that you intend to do it.  Had they just gone about it quietly, no one would have ever been the wiser.

Menino never did that - his letter asked them to reconsider opening in Massachusetts (the first state to allow SSM).

"I urge you to back out of your plans to locate in Boston"  there is no "or else" anywhere in the letter, no gubment force or threat of force was used other than the Mayor voicing his opinion on official letterhead.  Was it political grandstanding - yes.  That it was.

ETA:  Northeastern University said no to CFA opening up on campus in the wake of this.  They are a private institution and can do that.  I feel like there may be some confusion in NU not letting a CFA in and Menino voicing his opinion that they should not open in Boston.  Two different stories in the same city

here is a link to the letter if you want to read it:

Yeah but c'mon ... even saying you're going to do it and only backing down when lawsuits are threatened is testing the waters. It's dangerous and really there's no place for it in our society.
