That advice is not exciting enough to sell books or get you a TV show. Sorry, it will never work. Much better to go no carbs for 3 weeks drop a ton of weight and yoyo right back to where you started. |

All due respect, I'm always dubious as to the authenticity of emailed "facts" and conspiracy theory reporting. Any peer-reviewed research to back this up, as reported by respected journals? |

Member 102 Indiana | Subject: RE: Heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease This same inflammation diet theory has been presented by the author of the Zone diet. There was an article in Inside Triathalon about various pros utilizing this diet to maximize performance also. There is some detailed discussion about inflammation from foods in the article and more in the Zone books. This is not a new theory |

42 | Subject: RE: Heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease I have been going to continuing education meetings for years and have watched the needle swing on the cholesterol issue. Starting about 3 or 4 years ago the speakers began introducing the c reactive protien to the talks. The body of evidence is growing every year that heart disease is directly correlated to inflamation and cholesterol levels. With out inflamation there probably would be no heart disease unless you are just unlucky or have bad genes. As for how the inflamation is started science has not proven that one way or the other with 100 percent certinity. Your guess is just as good as mine as to how inflamtion gets started. The important take home message is to eat and participate in all activities in moderation as stated above. Make your little corner of the world a better place every day as you never know which day will be your last.

Expert 1028 Detroit, MI. Kinda. | Subject: RE: Heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease I don't want to either support or completely discredit Lundell. The evidence is mounting that inflammation is the culprit... What I really buy into is that carbohydrates are misunderstood, abused, and come with a plethora of consequences.
I also think that blaming cholesterol for heart disease is like blaming white blood cells for an infection - the WBC's don't cause infection, they come and do their job BECAUSE the infection is present. |

Connecticut | Subject: RE: Heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease i don;t have the medical knowledge to comment on this post so please take this as an observation. If you look at areas of the world (mostly third world countries) that don't have our modern foods that we eat every day filled with processed flours and sugars, you will see that they also don;t have Heart disease. not a reduced amount of heart disease cases but zero heart disease. The diet in these areas consist of fruits and vegetables, small amount of home raised beef/poultry, and fresh caught fish. mostly plant based diets. No processed food at all. all food is grown and raised and consumed. no flours, no sugars, no breads. These people don;t know any heart disease. they have disease and health issues, just not bypass surgeries and cholesteral medication. you would think will all the medical education and experience, some form of accepted eating patterns would be advised without the need for medications to solve (?) everyones problems? cheers. going for a bike ride now. They have virtually no cancer and heart disease. Some of the people who have ventured into "civilization" and eat our stuff do get sick! |

Is it saying something like the Paleo diet is ideal? Pretty much, or, close enough to call it that, I guess. Basically, it just points out the glaringly obvious - don't put processed crap into your body. Eat real food. |

Expert 2373 Floriduh | Subject: RE: Heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease ptri1 - 2012-08-27 8:56 AM not a reduced amount of heart disease cases but zero heart disease. Given that heart disease is a major cause of death world wide, I would say that if zero deaths attributable to heart disease is true, then these people are dying at an early age due to something (probably infectious disease) before they get old enough to get heart disease. There is little doubt that diet, exercise and genetics has something to do with this, but reduce the incidence from what it is in the US to zero? Unlikely |
