No, not the kind that Lochte wears, I mean real cooking grills...

My wife wants a new gas grill for the new deck.  I am seeing very similar grills for 100+ and for 400+ what's the difference?  Do we want Tru infared, or regular gas burners?  Brinkman, Char Broil, Webber???
Help....

P.S.  I know Charcoal is better, but she's the one with the money.....

I bought an infrared in the $750 price range.  I now wish I would have purchased the Weber.  Weber's just seem better-built.

I'll spend the money next time. If I can afford it, I will go back to having a direct natural gas connection from the house.  Had it at my last house, and I miss it here.  Much more convenient.

If you're going gas I would say Weber is the way to go. Not overly fancy but do what they do really well.

I just sold my 15 year old weber propane grill for $50.00 after buying the smaller Weber Q grill with the folding stand attachment.  That way I can take it anywhere easily in pretty much any vehicle.  Loved my other Weber also.

There are many good grills out there.  I just decided to spend more money on my Weber 15 years ago when they were made that much better than the others at the time.

I have a Charbroil Gas (4burner) from 2007. Still kicking like a champ. I've replaced the heat shield once and gone through 3 covers, but the grill has been flawless.

I aslo have a small charcoal smoker (smokey joe I believe) and it's AWESOME when it comes time to smoke.

I've used the Tru Infared stuff but honestly can't tell a difference for the price. I paid $300 and I have definitely put it through the wringer.

Weber. I really can't describe how great mine is. I'd say 10+ years, year round and absolutely fantastic. You'd be nuts to think about anything else.

X2.  My Weber is just over 8 years old, use it year round , and it's never missed a beat.

Another dedicated Weber user.  I have what is now the Genesis E330.  Going on 6yrs and cooks as good as new.  My electric ignitor did go out recently, but I've heard it is easy to swap out.  Definitely some upfront expense with this purchase but will last a very long time with little maintenance.  Don't go with the IR, as others have said I don't think it is worth the extra expense.

I have a Weber Genesis S320 - 5 years and going strong.   I have the natural gas version hooked up to house gas so never have to worry about the propane tank running out, filling or swapping.  LOVE that!

Weber. Hands down.  Worth any extra that you may pay over other brands.  Lifetime on site guarantee is hard to beat.  My parents had a weber kettle (charcoal) for over 20 years.  I love my Summit, even cooked a Thanksgiving turkey on it.

If you have natural gas service in your home look into a NG grill.  Awesome to NEVER need to refill/exchange tanks.

I just switched from my gasser back to a charcoal grill, and I will never go back to gas.  I bought a weber that lights the coals with gas, then you turn the gas off.  Speeds up the process tremendously.  COals get much hotter, and offset cooking is better on it as well.

The OP was clear he wanted gas. And for gas I say Weber. Remove that restriction and it BGE all the way.

We have been using a Kenmore stainless six burner for five years now and have had really good luck. I would not hesitate to buy another one.

Have had several grills over the years and I had also purchased something on the less expensive side ($100-$200).  Those never lasted long and had horribly inconsistent cooking surfaces (as far as heat).

Two years ago I bought a Weber Genesis 3 burner and I can't believe what I was missing.  This thing cooks perfectly, is well built and looks great.  It still looks brand new (I keep it covered when not using it) after 3 years and I have no reason to believe it's not going to last a VERY long time.  I would highly recommend it.
