IM tattoo question...

Elite  3277     Minnetonka |  Subject: IM tattoo question...Why don't the elite athletes have the IM tattoo? Maybe some do. I've been watching videos since Kona is this weekend, and I don't see any tattoo's on Crowie, Macca, Miranda, Chrissie etc... Probably no real answer, just an observation. Do you think that it's such a huge accomplishment for the AG'r that these guys don't consider finishing such a big deal? Or is it because they are paid, and maybe not paid by ironman.

I've had to push a tattoo touch up back twice because of training/races. You have to (at least, you should) avoid pools and soaking in water for a couple weeks after a tattoo. Depending on the size, it could take longer. I had a 3/4 sleeve done and it was not possible to swim and riding was difficult because there was so much swelling in my shoulder and elbow. It would have been impossible to ride with aerobars. But for a small IM tattoo not over a joint, I dunno. Wouldn't be such a big deal. |

Also, I'm not sure what the % of overall finishers get tattoos, but it's probably pretty small. So, if you take any small sample size of IM competitors (elite pros, for example) it’s probably statistically unlikely that any of them would have an IM tattoo. |

Also, the fact that the whole logo is not red matters. They rather get a rose, a Ferrari...anything red, as we all know that red makes you faster. |

If you don't get the tat, did you really do the race? When I complete a 140.6, I plan on getting a triathlon tat, but it will not be a companies brand. |

If you don't get the tat, did you really do the race? When I complete a 140.6, I plan on getting a triathlon tat, but it will not be a companies brand. Then I will question whether you did a `REAL' race or not. (I say this with dripping sarcasm because it's actually happened to me with my 140.6 tat.) |
