Subject: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Halloween Trivia...

No blatant Halloween thread?!?! Halloween has been my favorite holiday...since being an "adult" it hasn't been as much fun because I don't really have good places to wear costumes...maybe I need to make friends and have a party?!!?

Lets play a game...Next person to reply answer the previous person's halloween-related question and then ask a new one...

I'll start :-)

Halloween was originally known as "Samhein", what did this holiday celebrate? (End of ??)

The day after All Hallows Eve is called?

All Saints Day.

But actually Samhain was to celebrate the transition from the "light months" to the "dark months". It at this transition that the veil between the realms (think "hell") was dropped, and the spirits and fae would invade our world. Likewise, there's Beltane that celebrates the other transition, at the end of April, and it's usually accompanied with bonfires, lakes, and much debauchery.

So next question:

What's the origin of the Jack-o-lantern?

So next question:

What's the origin of the Jack-o-lantern?

I had to google it...since no one else was answering...

According to the history channel, it was named after "Stingy Jack" who tricked the devil into not taking his soul. However, God wouldn't let him in heaven so the Devil sent him off into the nigh with a burning coal, as light, and Stingy Jack put that into a turnip and continues to wonder the night...

Next question:

I think this is a bit easier...Who was the actress in Halloween? ("The Original") And what was the villains name?

What is Michael Meyer's relationship to Laurie Strode.

Well you've got Gomez and Morticia and Wednesday and Pugsly.

Here's an easy one - who is the main character in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (bonus if you know where the real Sleepy Hollow is just because I grew up near there)?

Depends if you consider the headless horsemn or icabod crane. Bonus: somewhere in mass? What state was the Blair Witch project set in? Bonus: what town?

If I had to guess, it would be a Solomon Grundy reference, but I don't actually know the answer

Ding ding!

Mondays child is fair of face,
Tuesdays child is full of grace,
Wednesdays child is full of woe,
Thursdays child has far to go,
Fridays child is loving and giving,
Saturdays child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.
