I've heard runners should aim for 3 strides per second. Watching this video, I'd say yeah, you can sure cover a lot of ground with 3 strides per second.

Wow, that is a beautiful and amazing piece of filming!

But now I know the secret of going faster (in order of importance):

1) Cover yourself in spots.

2) Wear a tail.

3) Be thin and lean.

I'm initially going to try #1 and #2 to see if this will make me run faster, and eventually #3

He's heel striking.... he's gonna feel that tomorrow.

Just kidding.  Actually, if you watch closely, you can see that the feet are always making contact just slightly forward of the hip/shoulder and then they go through the foot pull on the ground and into a full extension of the leg behind them with a toe-off.

It's pretty cool to see as this is exactly what people preach when they talk running form.  I think it's pretty neat to see the same principles on display in nature's fastest creature.

Beyond the technical analysis, it's just a beautiful piece of cinematography.  Very cool, thank you!

5). Drop the ears to be more aero.

It could've been faster if its ears were not perky.

On a side note, I bet it was chasing a Kenyan.

What I found interesting is how much control the cheetahs maintained with their head.  They keep the head at almost the same spot, it doesn't bob up and down much at all.

...and their faces are so relaxed. They never look like they're trying hard.

That full speed clip at the end was amazing - you can see the burst of speed he puts on when he's close to the kitty toy.

Just like a cat to chase a furry thing attached to a string.

It's Cool For Cats.

Instinct/genetics are amazing things. From house cats to cheetahs they share so many traits. Except that cheetah would consider my cat a snack. No professional courtesy there!

I also find it interesting that both the front and back legs are symmetrical just until before contact when they hold one back a bit to get them out of sync.
