It has been 6 days since I have had coffee.  my 4 to 6 cups a day addiction let me to what I am believing adrenal fatigue.  Which is part of the reason I over eat.  I am hoping by breaking the caffeine addiction and the sugar addiction that come on lately also I will be at a much more harmonious state and I can better focus on my training and weight lose.  2 more days and I get another 4 day weekend so hopefully after that I will be in good shape to beat this monkey on my back.

Try a cup of coffee. Perhaps your blood sugar is low.

Stay Strong.

I am giving up coffee after the new year. I would say my habit is around 3-5 big cups a day, but I only have the urge to drink the stuff at work.

Good luck to the original poster, I did this at the age of 20 and 17 years later don't miss the coffee at all, down from 6+ cups a day during uni

I quit caffeine cold turkey on 9/15 of this year.  I've had it exactly twice since then and in both cases I was exhausted and had to do some driving > 1 hour and needed some pick-up...

I shared the OP's reasoning regarding quitting caffeine to address a fatigue issue I was facing..

Interesting the tie-in between caffeine and sugar as the carbs are still a problem for me...

Energy though is great and I don't see ever going back to caffeine regularly...And by regularly I would say even once per day...It's been probably a month since my last dose and I'm not missing it...

Having said that, if Diet Mtn Dew ever comes out caffeine free I might find myself at least drinking pop again...

Stevia concentrated drops have been a godsend for making water in large volumes palatable...

Sorry for the hijack, good luck to the OP and anyone else quitting caffeine...

Oh my, best wishes. This is inspiring. I quit coffee for a month once. I had terrible headaches for the first few days then that went away but I just felt tired all the time.

Did you have headaches?

Now you've got me thinking about trying again. I'll let you know in the morning.......

I don't drink enough to have caffeine headaches.. but I know what they are.

It's the only drug I will never give up... simply no point. Generally 2 doses a day, morning, afternoon. Strict cut off of 6 hours before bed... life is great. And so is coffee.

This has been my thinking in the past too. I used to only have one cup in the morning but this year I have added another morning cup and then sometimes (like today) another cup with lunch. Then once a week or so I'll go get a large dark roast from Starbucks and I practically get the shakes after I finish that - then I feel like an addict.

You are awesome and inspiring.  I really need to quit.  I've already had three diet cokes (my worst vice) in the past 6 hours of work).  Keep at it and I'll so my best to quit too, but only after Jan 1 !

You really are lucky to not have headaches, that was the worst part for me!

I am weak, still having my morning cup but I will work on cutting back to one cup a day.

I quit once. About two weeks in to it my wife informed me, "you really aren't as much fun since you gave up coffee." That was all it took. I have vowed to never give it up again.

A lot of data out there that moderate coffee use is pretty good for you (rumor has it that most of those studies were done by caffeine addicts )

On headaches and caffeine withdrawal.

There is a study out there where regular coffee users were split in to two groups.

Both were put on a regimen of decaf coffee.

One group was told that they were getting decaf coffee and nearly all reported "severe" headaches.

The other group was told that they were getting regular coffee even though it was decaf and reported a much lower incidence of headaches.

The mind is an amazing thing.

Wow its day 7 and I do not feel like I am going to fall asleep on the spot.  I think I am going to make it.  I just 8 hours to go and I will have 4 days off.  I always been good at not drinking coffee on the weekends.  probably why I do not get headaches as much.  my body expects to go back on the caffeine at any time.

No plans to give up coffee--without caffeine, I think I (and many people in the Pacific Northwest) would never make it more than a few meters out of bed in the winter. And Saigon (me included) would grind to a sluggish halt without that lethal iced Vietnamese jet fuel, "cafe (sua) da". I have pretty much given up sweetened coffee drinks, though, and cut back to an average of two cups a day, in the interests of healthy diet and quality sleep.
