Gunfire being exchanged. Transit officer critically wounded in exchange with suspects.

Apparently more suspects than originally thought ?

DanielG - 2013-04-19 4:35 AM I'm waiting to see if this has anything to do with the hoopla at MIT.

watching the feed, apparently it does.

timeline goes:

> Attempted robbery at 7eleven (Cambridge)

> MIT police officer shot and killed

> Carjacking and chase to Watertown

> shootout where one suspect was shot (later declared dead)

> one suspect missing after shootout

I think that's where it stands, looks like it's all related as the picture of the suspect in the 7Eleven robbery is one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.

ETA: this was from the live feed on ABC website.

I'm about 5 miles from where all this is happening.  All mass transit is shut down, police asking residents of several towns to stay home, the town of Watertown is in total lock down (no one in/out of the entire town) and police/SWAT/military going door to door to find the second suspect.

Getting texts from a friend who is at a conference at MIT. She was supposed to come home this morning but everything is shut down. I hope they take the second suspect alive.

Is there a federal death penalty? I'm assuming this will be a federal case.

Apparently they are/were 2 brothers from Chechnya. The 2 previous names being mentioned completely wrong. Door to door searches on going for the white capped suspect who got away somehow earlier.

Woke up hearing this news. 2 brothers, each demented enough to have no value for human lives. I'm glad the one brother is down and it's not going to end well for the other. I'm OK without a circus of a trial. If they take home out I'm sure there are lots of people in the Boston area that will sleep better tonight.

The whole city of Boston is on lockdown right now.  I work far enough north of the city where it's not reaching us, but all the major suburbs around the city and all activity in the city is pretty much at a stand still.

I know that's the gut reaction, but I really hope he is captured and put on trial.

I was inclined to agree with Ray for the merit that the residents of the city will have it end today. But what if they're in a network and getting help? Without a trial and inquisition, it's harder to find out.

Take him alive and interrogate him. Then have him make gravel from boulders the rest of his time on earth.

I'm full aware: It works badly and slowly.

I'll back away from my previous statement.  I'm not saying they should execute him on the spot.  I just wouldn't shed any tears if he accidentally got hit by say a few hundred bullets.

Basically sums up how I feel. Potentially there could be some benefit in taking the SOB alive. But if he goes down...not a sad day for me. I've been listening and reading about the off and on this morning, how did they let this guy get away?

Apparently #2 could swim a bit.

[Updated 9:48 a.m. ET] An aquatic director at Harvard University told CNN that he hired Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as a lifeguard more than two years ago, but hasn't seen him for more than a year.

"He seemed like a very quiet, unassuming young man," the aquatic director, George McMasters, told CNN Friday morning. "He showed up on time, watched the water, rotated from position to position fine, got along well with students and swimmers there at the pool."
