Pre-race routine:

Grabbed a Honey Stinger Waffle on my way out the door then we stopped at Sbux for a beverege for the drive. I had a dirty chai and DS1 had a white mocha (me thinks). We drove the 45 minutes or so to the elementary school for which this race is organized (a great school fundraiser if you ask me). We went and picked up our packets and got our timing chips (first time for DS1) then went back to the car to attach said timing chip and bib.
Event warmup:

Walked around some looking at the student art in the school. Hit the restroom, which was a nice change from the usual port-o-potties. Lined up and listened to the school choir sing the national anthem (pretty cool) and we were off!

Comments:

What a great event. This is the main fundraiser for this school. There were kids everywhere! It was so much fun running with the little kids! They would blast past us then we would eventually catch up as they walked, then they'd blast past us again! DS1 did a great job and didn't walk for quite a while but the constant up hill and the elevation (above 7,000 ft) wore on him so we walked at about a mile then again just before the turn around. Great event with beautiful scenery. Def a do-again race.
What would you do differently?:

Abso-frickin-lutely nothing. Had a great 5k with my son!
Post race
Warm down:

After walking around a bit and enjoying the fruits and water at the finish (they had lots of options including coffee) we went to a local coffee shop and got coffee (another dirty chai for me) and some breakfast for our trip back home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Enjoying the race with my son and with all the little kids.

Event comments:

This was a fun race and I would recommend it for someone wanting to do a small home-town race.

What a great thing to be able to do with your son. That is just so cool!

Way to pass on the passion for the sport. You had better watch out though, Yanti might come over here and try and scoop one of them up.

Sounds like a nice run. 7K elevation is no joke.

Also, you are a racing ho Smile

Nice! I have to confess that I have no idea what a dirty Chai drink is, but since you had 2, I guess they're pretty good

TJ, you are simply too cool! I am so glad you had the opportunity to run with your son. Really, what could beat the opportunity to spend time with family doing something you enjoy? Great job!

Salty, I'm guilty as charged. Added another race to my 5 week racing streak with a 5k in the series I'm doing with DS1. He's trying to get time off for the Bolder Boulder too!

Ann-Marie, a dirty chai is a chai latte with a shot of espresso!!!! Mmmmm, now I want one!!!!!!!

Watching the people around me trying to be more fit is sooooo awesome. Now DH is riding/running regularly, DS1 is continuing to train for our 5k's and niece is taking a spinning class and asking about road bikes. *Sigh* happy me!
