Extreme Veteran 402 Ogden, Utah | Subject: World Situation (or should I say world crisis) We now have Isreal entering Lebenon and Gaza. Iran is trying to get nukes (and wants to wipe Isreal off the face of the earth). India suffered a massive blow with yesterday's train bombings. North Korea, and Japan's situation (need I say more with that). China and Russia are opposed to ANY repercussions against Iran OR North Korea.
All of these states are literally in crisis mode. Am I seeing what I think I am seeing? Dare I say it, but are we on the brink of another world conflict? |

China/Russia/North Korea/Iran vs. US/Canada/Europe/Japan/Australia/India/Pakistan/Israel for WWIII? I sure hope not. Well as we know of it would be China/Russia/North Korea/Iran/Syria/Lebanon/Palestine/Lord knows how many other Middle eastern countries/?Paskistan? vs. US/Canada/Japan/?India?/Isreal Canada would be thrown into it for the simple fact OF the Bering Sea (Could you imagine a troop buildup in Alaska?). There's no indication whatsoever that Europe's pacifistic nature would even get involved. We've saved them twice, but that doesn't mean squat now a days (especially with the Pakistan and India is up in the air... I have no idea where that would land. They are clear enemies, and Pakistan is majority muslim...but in order for that to fall thorugh there would have to be a government overthrow in Pakistan (which is not unlikley). Now the question is where would Iraq go? Shiver.... Edited by TwoRiversTri 2006-07-12 9:44 AM |

The Brits would have our back, since W. and Blair are joined at the hip. And they'd drag the Frenchies in as well.

Wait, let me guess. Foreign policy was bad prior to this administration right? We were hated world wide prior to 2000 right? US politics has had nothing to do with nor any influence on foreign affairs, right? I don't recall anti american sentiment as bad as this after the first Gulf war. I guess cause and effect is not applicable here. Besides, democracy in the middle east is worth all this....right?

What worries me about this situation is that they are moving out of the Kashmir region and penetrating southern parts of India. The increasing growth of Muslims in India is going to cause harshness between Hindus and Muslims in all parts of India, not just Kashmir. I saw firsthand in India the animosity between the two. I knew it wouldn't be long before this happened. It's so unfortunate. |

My reaction was both to the fact that you implied that things would be magically fixed with a new party in power and the tired "threats" of moving to another country if that doesn't happen. Remember, everything that's bad in the world started in 2001. It was a virtual paradise prior to that, right? The Mac - 2006-07-12 10:45 AM DerekL - 2006-07-12 11:24 AM Oh dear lord.... Not a paradise, but better than things are now. IMHO, the decline can be traced to recent decisions over the past 6-8 years. Others may see it differently. Perhaps a different political party may not "fix" things, but they may not make the same stupid mistakes and can stop the bleeding. |

Perhaps a different political party may not "fix" things, but they may not make the same stupid mistakes and can stop the bleeding. Grass is always greener on the other side. And I guarantee that similar mistakes will be made. As for tracing events to the last 6-8 years, some would argue that it started way back in the '40s. After the end of WWII and colonialism, and then thee creation of Israel, and the rise of the importance of oil to the world economy. Of course, really, let's face it, things have never really been all that great to begin with. I mean, animals have been fighting and dying for....well, for ever. Can't ignore the struggles of nature. It may be shrouded with high political terms and such, but let's face facts: this struggle is no different than two rams butting heads over territory and babes. |

I would never vote for a president running on an anti-US platform. I feel badly for whoever the next pres is, the world is in a heckuva mess right now and there aren't many good options no matter which party is there, but I think there is an argument to be made that the world's landscape would be quite different now had Gore been, ahem, elected instead of Bush. |
