Multisport

Sunny
Total Time = 50m 43s
Overall Rank = 8/267
Age Group = Male 50+
Age Group Rank = 1/40
Pre-race routine:

Up early for the 1:15 drive to Pensacola Beach. 70 degrees with 90% humidity at 5am. This race was not originally on the schedule so no taper and a "C" race.
Event warmup:

Set up and did an easy warm up run. Visited with friends and teammates
Swim
  • 05m 21s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim time includes long run through beachside restaurant, across the street and parking lot to transition. Hard to do much given the short length of the swim and the number in my wave. Passed a bunch of guys on the run to transition.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
What would you do differently?:

Pretty quick transition. Plenty of time to get cap and goggles off on the long run to transition.
Bike
  • 24m 19s
  • 10 miles
  • 24.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Decided to push this pretty hard and see what I had left for the run. Still not all out pace but solid ride. AP258/NP260
What would you do differently?:

Still could have pushed more but legs said no
Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Came in on the wrong side of my rack so lost a couple of seconds there.
Run
  • 19m 56s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out around 6:35 pace. Shoe came untied about 300 yards in so lost about 10 seconds there. First mile was 6:48, 2nd 6:35 and last was 6:25. Solid run and felt good about negative splits
What would you do differently?:

Double check my laces after run warm up
Post race
Warm down:

Did a short cool down run

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of a taper. With Eagleman 3 weeks out and this being lower priority race training was pretty solid for the week. Pleased with race result though.

Event comments:

Good race. Everything went smoothly. They may need to look at a time trial start for the swim if the number of racers continues to increase. Fun after race party.

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.
