Relay for life
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 13m 45s
Overall Rank = 3/
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 2/
Pre-race routine:

This race was over an hour away, so I got up at 5:15 made some coffee and hit the road. I was the first person to show up, registered and set up my transition.
Event warmup:

Stretching and a little light running.
Swim
  • 11m 46s
  • 525 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a reverse so the swim was the last leg I knew I couldn't gain enough ground to get to second I just tried not to lose third.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more and harder during training.
Transition 1
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

Pretty good transition couldn't have done much better here.
Bike
  • 36m 54s
  • 13.04 miles
  • 21.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Best bike of the year I was down quite a bit after the run and ended up making back a lot of that time on the bike, I probably could have attacked the hill better but all in all it was a great ride.
What would you do differently?:

Go just a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Reverse so it was off with the bike on with the swim stuff, again this was a good transition.
Run
  • 23m 47s
  • 3.05 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Started right where I wanted to be, I can't complain about this run at all I just wish I was a little faster. I need to work on my run some more so I don't have as much to make up on the bike in these reverse races.
What would you do differently?:

Train more and bring a small bottle to keep cool.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and had a couple of bottles of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to swim better I will work on that a lot this off season as well as my running.

Event comments:

Maybe an aid station at the run turn around.

Well it is mid-life crisis time. I could get a mistress but I still think my wife is hot. Or I can abuse my body like I was still 19. Triathlon world here I come!!

Thousands of spectators lined the shore and bridges overhead. When the announcer said, “Welcome to the best day of your life,” the possibility was still there for all of us.

But just when I was beginning to think that life is consumed by only darkness, just out of my sight, there it was...A glimmer of light.

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.

“Too bad there’s not anything like this for triathletes.” There are a million books and articles on how to train. One of the toughest parts of triathlon training is how to fit them into everyday life.

I was humbled last year. My body shut down on me just before two World Championship events. I was originally in top form to medal in both, but my strength was sapped from me.

Sometimes life just isn’t fair! We all have situations come up from time to time that test our dedication to triathlon training.

I take for granted getting to train and how fortunate I am to have the health that I have. Life…it doesn’t seem fair and it’s not always fair.
