Swim
Comments: Before the race, I felt like I had a pretty good chance of winning the swim (at least for the 40+ wave). I felt okay in the water, but must not have been that efficient. My time was 1 minute slower than last year, but I do think that was partially the course being a bit longer. I think I should have been at least 30 seconds faster here. Maybe I didn't push it hard enough...I think I had more to give. What would you do differently?: Swim a little harder. Transition 1
Comments: Nailed the transition. I was one of the top times of everyone. What would you do differently?: Not much I could have done better here, honestly. Bike
Comments: Just about 2mph faster than last year. Felt much better this time around. Probably could've been a little faster on the first mile or so, but I felt like I gave this just about the right effort. What would you do differently?: Just need offseason work to improve my speed. Transition 2
Comments: Did this pretty well. One of the better times of the entire day. I seem to do this very well. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I am just not a good runner. Still trying to build speed back up from my injury. Gave it what I had, but probably should've left a little more on the course in the last mile. I think I could've shaved 10-15 seconds. What would you do differently?: Be a better runner naturally? Beyond that, I would push the last mile harder. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some water and food. Found another BT'er who was in from Minnesota for the race and talked to him for quite a while. What limited your ability to perform faster: Still not a very good runner. I need to work hard in the offseason. I need to be 3 minutes faster in the run. Event comments: A couple of things bothered me. They didn't give out tags for the bikes, so that opens a small door for bad things to happen. They also wouldn't take the timing chips until the transition was opened, which was annoying. Other than that, not bad. Last updated: 2013-03-04 12:00 AM

Went out for some Italian while watching the Tigers baseball game the night before. Had two beers afterwards, wound up in bed by about 11PM. Fell asleep probably before 11:30PM. Woke up entirely too early (4:30AM), got dressed, and left about 4:45AM to drive from Spring Lake to Ludington, MI. Arrived just before transition and registration opened.
Took an easy 3 mile bike and an easy run. Wandered out to the swim course but didn't really get in the water to warm up, which I should have. Did some stretching and arm motions to simulate swimming. They started my wave 10 minutes before they had it listed, but it wasn't a problem, as I was ready for it.
