Subject: Need some shoe fashion advice

Based on the fact that I wore jorts up until last year I'm not too into what looks good and doesn't.  So, I must yet again seek some advice.

My work is business casual, but I end up wearing jeans half the time with a polo.  I typically wear black dress shoes with the khaki's and some old Asic running shoes with my jeans.  Both pairs of shoes are getting a little long in the tooth so I figured I'd go for something I could wear with both jeans and khaki's.

Winter is coming so I was thinking about boots that I could also wear with business casual.  I found these and thought they would fit the bill.

Rockport Rugged Bucks Waterproof Boot

My wife thought they were too aggressive of a "boot" to be worn with business casual, but the video on the link shows a guy with khaki pants and I thought they looked fine.

Thoughts?

i think they are fine.  but i've been working in manufacturing plants for the past 11 years so that is basically what everyone wears.

and they will look nice with your stripey shorts.

Yes, they're fine. I hear what your wife is saying, but nobody is going to be at eye level with the sole, so while it is quite noticeable in the pic, I don't think it's an issue. Though listen to me now: you can't wear a boot that height with shorts. Not ever

I think they would look good with my stripey shorts and a matching leather braided belt.  lol

I've been making a conscious effort the last year get to an acceptable fashion level.  I went from jorts with mandals to cargo shorts/board shorts with flip flops.

I wear a pair of Skechers on Casual Fridays, something along these lines:

http://www.skechers.com/style/63746/relaxed-fit-talus-valey/bbk

They are comfortable, look OK, and are casual as can be. They work with khakis or jeans.

I'm a big fan of Timberland. Their factory outlets are usually well stocked.

Well, you do live on Nebraska. Btw, the may hing braided belt comment made me choke on my coffee. Well done.

Do you "need" a boot, or is it just more functional? I personally don't dig the boot at work look unless it's a safety requirement like in a factory setting.

I'm more of a fan of a slip-on like this

or something like the Loafer that Rockford has (similar to the boot, but more casual). I'm not personnally a fan of boots either, and the loafer you could also wear with khaki's (but then it was also knocked into our head at military separation that dress shoes and khaki's are a bit of a mis-match)

Eh I live in Kansas (identical weather patterns) and don't see many fashionable dudes wearing anything close to this... unless of course they work outside or in a factory. If he was asking for "fashion advice" and spends most of his time indoors I would not recommend the boot. My opinion only..

I don't "need" a boot, it's more of a personal preference thing.  With the snow and slush in the winter I prefer to have a waterproof shoe, so that's probably the only real functional driver.

When I was younger I wore Dexter boat shoe type high tops.  Similar to the mens version of these.

Fair enough. One of the looks I find hottest involves boots much more aggressive than Tony's choice. I'm sure it's not fashionable, and that is an inherent part of the hotness. Tony, you should probably go with whatever Lisa says. I get turned off by dudes (and women) who are too fashionable.

I think the boot looks fine with jeans and is pushing it for khakis. Unless as previously mentioned it is being used during snowy/slushy weather as a functional necessity. Rule of thumb- Listen to your wife. Right or wrong, your life will be easier if you dress the way she wants to see you dress. In other words, buy the boots you want AND buy the shoes she wants you to buy. Mix and match as appropriate.

All this talk of chukker boots and stripey shorts, I can't see your feet in the wedding pic. Tell me you're not wearing chukker boots with those shorts...
or tube socks.

I have a strong suspicion that there's very little overlap on that Venn diagram

You should listen to Lisa.  I like outliers.

With the boot there is no need to worry about sock color choice, which is always white 1/4 sock.

Wear the boots..... Jeez Tony, why in the hell would you ask a woman what she thought you should wear??   I'm never going to understand why men do that.  Laughing

True that, I hate having to wear different socks with different shoes.

LOL

It's like my wife askig me if something "looks good"....how the hell do I know?  As far as I can tell women mostly dress to impress other women so how am I supposed to know what looks good to that brain?  I don't know and I don't care. Laughing

So women dress to impress other women and now I'm supposed to take advice from them on what looks good on me?  Uh.....no.  I have 4 daughters in addition to a wife......I don't know how many times one of them has said, "you're going to wear THAT?".......I just keep walking and pretend I'm deaf.
