That was just a bro hug from the City of Brotherly Love! But yeah, someone should have pulled the guy off. |

That's a very busy stop, although being Temple U. it's full of college kids. I'm trying to find a tactful way of describing the surrounding neighborhood - let's just say low income. |

Any time you have an individual "wrestling" with an armed police officer it's a matter of seconds before he has his gun. I'd probably go in for a serious sucker punch, but if that wasn't an option I'd bust out the pepper spray first and escalate from there. I'd be a little less inclined to dog pile onto the wrestling match, because I suck at wrestling. |

When I'm not working I usually carry a Jonathon apple....maybe a Granny Smith if I sense real danger. LOL I like to have some fun with you, but all kidding aside, you seem like a level headed guy who has the ability to not take himself too seriously and still be ready to take action and help out if needed. I'd pick you first on the gunfight playground. It's good to know there are private citizens who take their responsibility to carry a gun as seriously as you do. There have surely been times I'd have welcomed the help. Edited by Left Brain 2013-10-02 12:08 AM |

There have surely been times I'd have welcomed the help. lol, thanks. I've had a gradual increase in what I carry over the years. I've carried pepper spray for 5 years or so and it's just a little pocket canister, so it's not much bigger than a keychain. I have always carried a knife for general utility use since I was about 10. For many years I carried a Gerber multi-tool type setup, but switched back to a knife again about 5 years ago. I always carried a small flashlight when I was in the Navy because there were many times the lights would go out or you'd need to see in dark places. So, I've carried a flashlight since I was about 18 as well, and upgraded to a small tactical light last year. I had a CCW back in 1998 when I was attacked by a bunch of druggies in one of my apartment buildings I owned. I spent 5 years on my ships VBSS team (rough equivalent to a SWAT team) where i had a lot of weapons training and I really knew how to use a gun, but it didn't help me without a gun. We had a school shooting here in Omaha a few years ago and the kid who did it drove into the parking lot right outside my office. The police showed up quickly and he chose to off himself versus continue his rampage. That was the final catalyst for me to get my permit again and start carrying. It's hard to explain, but when you have a lot of military training and know how to use a gun it's a really weird feeling to be in a situation where you likely need one and don't have one. Here's what I have on me pretty much all day (plus a cellphone). If I go somewhere I can't carry I just lock the gun in a safe in my car but still have the rest. |

It's not that bad actually. Flashlight clipped to the inside top of my left front pocket, knife clipped to inside top of my right front pocket, pepper spray in right front pocket, cellphone on belt clip holster (yeah, i'm a holster phone guy), inside wasteband holster for gun at 4:00 position on back right hip. If you saw me walking down the hall, you'd never notice any of it. |
