I just asked this question of a co-worker this morning; when did the term "fan base" come into vogue? It used to be fine to refer to the fans of a team and "the fans." Now it's the fan base. What gives? It's like "price point" instead of price. Do people feel smarter if they use more words? Not to suggest that Aaron is trying to make himself seem smarter...

How could I possibly do that?

 

Perhaps it was created by dedicated fans to differentiate themselves from bandwagoner's. For instance, BSU is highly subject to bandwagon fans. Some BSU fans are hardcore and there through thick and thin but most of "Bronco Nation" has been pretty durn quiet this year. 

Or it could be a way for Bama fans to think they sound smart.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. Being a former Denverite I think the Broncos could have easily made the top 10. Not only are their fans ignorant, they're also obnoxious. Same with my alma mater, CU-Boulder.

Hmm,    Whomever wrote those pieces should not be throwing *virtual* stones.    Per the Alabama piece, a 19 year old who slept with and impregnated a 14 year old would be spending time behind bars.

All the pieces strive to be acerbic and fail.   They are simply mean spirited in the worst way.    Oscar Wilde is spinning in his grave.  

 

Obviously, I'm in the 15%....
