72 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Yeah, OK, I'm in. I signed up. This will be my first "HIM". I've been doing Indoor Cycling and Swimming and some weight training and skiing (lift-served and earning 'em on skinz) and of course beer drinking. What's next? Who else is in? I'm scared, but that's part of the phun. |

83 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread I'm in! My second time doing Timberman. I plan on being better prepared this time. Hills on the bike route were pretty killer. I've been on the trainer and swimming a lot lately. I'm about to resume running after a hiatus, based in part on a calf strain and also the horrendous weather this winter. |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread did this last year, but won't be back to due family committments. Fun race - thought it was the best swimming venue i've ever been in. Agree the hills are tough, but the middle 30 miles is pretty flat (and semi boring); Run is a blast due to all the local support. If you guys want to make this a really fun time, sign up to be on the Make-A-Wish Foundation team. No minimum fundraising amount. TONS of extras, and you are a real rock star all weekend. Its the official charity partner of the race w/ WTC. One of the best perks was being racked with the pros. Tons of space, nice astroturf between the racks, etc. I was racked 10 feet from Andy Potts, and 20' from the bike out/in. |

1 Tyngsboro, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread I'm looking to start a weekend training group of people interested in doing this race. I am a beginner myself and consider the run to be my stronger discipline of the three. I do live on a lake on the NH/MA border so come Memorial day weekend swim training will go into full effect. For now I am focusing on the bike/run. It's a lot easier to suffer with someone next to you! |

Expert 1128 Boston | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread I am excited for this race! I pick my races based upon location and scenery and worry about the course later. I have a love/hate relationship with hills but i figure doing some of the BUMPS series uphill bike races will get me into shape!

72 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread OK.......I started running. Last night, my goal was to do my first run of the year and take it easy and just do 3 miles just to knock the rust 'n cobwebs off. So, I did 5 miles and felt great and this morning, I'm not even sore - this Functional Strength Training appears to be paying dividends. I had a nice 2 mile swim this morning in the pool and my times are dropping. I just might very well be on the way........I say that, but I still have yet to see that hilly bike section that Timberman has; uh-oh. |

Seren, I like and am intrigued by this approach and attitude! Very sporty/sporting! I figured I'd give this thread a bump. How is everyone doing with their training? I had a nice 6 mile run tonight and an intense functional strength session with my trainer on Wednesday night which was downright spiritual - I didn't realize that you can soak mesh shirts! Carbo refueling now with the Great Divide Brewing Co. and then it's earning turns in foul weather on Mt Washington tomorrow where I patrol. |

1159 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread this is now one of my potential pre-Chattanooga races - I was going to do Rev3 WVa, but they cancelled it - trying to decide between this one, Steelhead the weekend before, Lake Logan (run by Set-Up Events the first weekend in August) or the challenge race in Ohio (new albany - I think) - hils wise, i'm kind of leaning towards this one - its got more gain that chatt does, but I figure if I can nail this...the other races are flatter |

I am thinking the closest airport is Manchester NH which is maybe an hour to an hour and a half at most away. Where are you coming from? |

Member 134 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread I love the effort, so just an FYI..... That is a REALLY tough trip heading south on a Sunday out of NH/New England in August. You'll hit the traffic leaving the lakes , Maine/NH beaches and the Cape. Seeing how you are from the DC area, you're a seasoned pro with traffic, but I would estimate several extra hours in traffic time. Again not trying to deter you at all, but a friendly heads up. 83 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread I believe we're about 7 weeks out so I'm curious how people are doing on training. I'm in good shape on the swim and beginning to get in some long rides on the bike (weather is finally cooperating) but my run training has been a little behind. I need to step that up in the coming weeks. |

I need to step that up in the coming weeks. I got very, very discouraged after the Ashland Olympic.........but now I'm working on a mission to bounce back and prep for Timberman which will be my first HIM. I've been stepping up my runs, putting in 5:15am runs - outta' my brain on the train, The Fiiiiiiive-Fifteen. Internet research revealed some good practice hills in my back-yahd, so I've been doing many hills on my bike emphasizing verts over miles with my final 5-6 miles being downhill or flats on lightly travelled heavily shaded roads which gives me time to chillax and savor the grinding hills I did. I've also increased my strength training, using burn-outs. This morning, I had my fastest run pace in a long while which is boosting my confidence. This weekend, I'll be doing a whitewater kayaking boot camp which is a hammerfest. Now, I'm lining up some big bike days with some in Vermont. |

83 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Originally posted by Mahk I got very, very discouraged after the Ashland Olympic........ I've done Ashland three times and I have to say that it's a pretty tough course. The hills on the bike route are only outdone by the hills on the run. It can be a dispiriting race, but it's also good training for Timberman given the lay of the land. |

Veteran 320 Orange, CT | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Timberman : Official Thread Thanks Serenity. I booked a "rustic" looking place about 7 miles away. Getting in on Friday sometime. My training is going fairly well. Still seems like a lot to do in one day. Did an ocean swim (about 1 - 1.5 miles) followed by a 9 mile run the day after a 40 something mile bike. Finished but it was hard. Hopefully the next few weeks will get me there |

Hopefully the next few weeks will get me there I'll be there Friday too! My training has taken a back seat to family issues and work...UGH! Hoping to get back on track next week. I did the White Mountain Half in June and had my worse HIM time ever! I totally bonked....i just couldn't eat/drink enough....my stomache just said NO. I wasn't totally prepared for the bike course either. It felt like there was one really nice downhill but all the rest of the course was uphill. I came in dead last....... I hope to redeem myself with TImberman and at least get back to my baseline time of 6 hours. Edited by Seren 2014-07-04 12:42 PM |
