That car was a tank! Oh yeah, we didn't wear seatbelts.....but I can't remember why.....probably just thought it was stupid. |

The bedroom I shared with my brother, that my dad built us in the basement, had burnt orange shag carpet! The drop ceiling was perfect for hiding my dad's Playboy magazines that we retrieved from the trash. Later we hid our weed there......it's always been a wonder that my dad never checked up there, or wondered why we were broke up giggling at dinner. I remember once we were so broke up at lunch that a noodle from his chicken noodle soup came out of my brothers nose when we was laughing. HAHAHA!!! Basically, at that point, lunch was over. Extreme Veteran 1001 Highlands Ranch, Colorado | Subject: RE: If 70s moms had blogs It didn't mention us teenagers all piling into the back of a friends pick-up to go to a game, we could fit 8-10 of us comfortably in the back. We had green shag carpeting, olive green appliances, paneled walls and a '72 Buick Electra (also olive green). |

I heard that on tv. 2 stories, then I'm outta here for happy hour: TW and I bought a house in the mid 90's with Burnt Orange shag rug in the den. We ripped it up and threw it out the front door while the seller's were in the front yard packing their moving truck. It was HORRID!!!!!! We moved to Fl in 73 in a Duster with mom chain smoking the entire trip. Yeah, the windows were NOT rolled down. 3 kids in the back, I slept on the floor, while my little sister slept in the back window and my older sister slept across the back seat. Seatbelts??????? |

Rear seat belts weren't mandated until 1968. At the time, almost all of the belts were manually adjusted. We had to wear seatbelts in driver's ed (1981) and I had to wear a seatbelt anywhere I was driving/riding at the air force base (1984). As to the OP, those were the days! My mom never bought Jiffy-Pop and rarely bought Tang. |

Almost as bad as not rolling down the window was when they would flick the ashes out their front window and they would come in the back window and burn us! |

We had a green station wagon with the wood strips on the sides. The jump seats in the back were awesome! You could open on up, leave the other closed and use it as a table to eat lunch on the long trips to NY! |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: If 70s moms had blogs Oooh sadly, my parents (who have been living in the same house for 39 years) still have a living room with green shag carpeting---the same carpeting I grew up laying on while watching t.v.---while dad smoked, fussed about the government, and mom did typing (some home based secretarial stuff--on a TYPEWRITER, but the "modern new electrical" type!)...They removed the majority of the carpet from the rest of the house, and luckily changed the coloring of the kitchen from yellow/gold to off white, but the living room still has the shag!!!

That's called a Landau. I had a '78 Monte in high school, of the non-Landau variety. |
