what do you think???

Conspiracy beliefs reflect anger with government

More than a third of the American public suspects that federal officials assisted in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll.

The national survey of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they "personally are more angry" at the government than they used to be.

People irritated with their goverment because they blame it for higher gas prices... I buy that.

The gov't having anything to do with planes slamming into two major buildings and killing thousands of people just to go to war and get more people killed in the Middle East... gimme a break.

think know there a lot of idiots out there.  Inept yes, but to think that the gov't would sacrfice 3000 working Americans  so the US cud go to war is just that, idiotic.  Having had  lost friends in the attack that kind of nonsense just infuriates me.

People just don't think about the logistics of it all.  Does anybody honestly think our government is competent enough to have this huge conspiracy and have everybody involved keep 100% quiet?

What adults? Where do they live? What is their economic background? What is their education level?

That is bullsh*t. People are angry about the war and gas prices, yes, but this doesn't mean 1/3 of the "American public" thinks we had a hand in Sept. 11.

it doesn't say anything about that in the article. just this:

"The survey was conducted by telephone from July 6-24 at the Scripps Survey Research Center at the University of Ohio under a grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points."

I lost 343 fellow firefighting brothers that day. I am not on the same page with the current president but I think that is just crazy. Conspiracy theories are a dime a dozen.

Here's a fun tidbit I found:

"The catalyst for most of the Pentagon-attack sleuths can be traced back to the incendiary propaganda of French author and radical socialist Thierry Meyssan, president of the virulently anti-American and pro-Communist French think tank Reseau Voltaire."

http://www.thenewamerican.com/artman/publish/article_1253.shtml

Of course, this website is, no doubt, part of the cover-up.

Oh, it just gets better and better. From the same website:

David vonKleist, for instance, features on his In Plane Site website a glowing endorsement from David Icke, the New Age guru who peddles fantastic conspiracy theories claiming that George W. Bush and other world leaders are actually reptilian shape-shifters from another galaxy.

Reptiallian ssssshape-ssssshifters!  That'ssss jussssst sssssilly!

No way in Heck that the US would have a hand in attacking A) the motherlode of all capitalizm --WALL STREET, and B) plow into themselves - Pentagon.

My bro in law was in one of the towers - he survived. I've talked with him and others in NYC, at the time, they were cut off with no cells/phones etc.. so many thought we were under attack and sheer terror and confused panic were the modus operandi that day. I can't believe any govt would ever do such a thing to justify war. Frankly, I'm surprise the govt. didn't retaliate faster. I'll never forget calling my sister to ask about her husband. At the time, she didn't know anything. I had heard it on the radio on the way to work. My bro in law's firm lost several people that day and altered families and history forever.

I still have a photo of family members dining at the top of the WTC. Very eerie...
America is not the fortress she was and has become tarnished on many levels because of 9/11.

I am not convinced either way although I tend to think that the gov't is not smart enough to pull off the attacks.  However, the question of whether they turned a blind eye to heightened threats is a different story.  I would however question the reasoning for going to war.  It seems that the 10's of thousands of lost lives in Iraq is as rediculous and as incomprehensible as those lost on 9/11....and some could argue that both incidents were preventable; the Iraq war certainly was.

GAS prices GAS prices!!!!!!!!! I am so sick of hearing about high gas prices and about how the dirty rotten stinking oil companies are getting so rich they need to drop the price of gas. Is everyone in America a IDIOT lets look at gas prices and please be patent as this will require people to think not just speak.
1. Inflation the cost of gas in 1981 was about 1.00 a gal and milk was about 1.00 a gal today gas is 3.00 and milk is 3.00 hmmmm
2. In the last 30 years we the united states have not built any (0 none) new refineries to produce gas well guess what during that time gas consumption has increased dramatically so guess what the 1970 refinery capacity does not meet the 2000”s needs DUH
3. We have enough oil in the United States to supply most of our needs but we do not go get it we do not dill in ANWAR, off shore Florida or several other areas so if we will not get ours we need to import theirs.
4. Next and last for this lesson BIG OIL well lets substitute oil for grapes and you for big oil you have a bowl of grapes and you can only get 1 bowl of grapes per week all of your neighbors want the grapes so you sell them they cost you 2.00 per grape and the government who produces no grapes takes .45 cents each total cost to you is 2.45 so you sell them for 3.50. and the neighbors buy all the grapes the first day but you can only get 1 bowl of grapes per day so everyone goes with out the rest of the week and gets mad at you. You ask the government to plant more grapes so you can provide more for the people and they say no! so do you continue to sell the grapes for 2.45 and make everyone mad and cause a shortage or do you jack the price to 3.00 then everyone buys a few less grapes and everyone has enough evern if they are mad about the price?

That my friends in a very simple way is the situation we are in. If we will demand our congressman allow more drilling and refining then the companies will be able to make more gas and prices will drop. Now many of you will say we need to conserve and I agree but conservation alone will not fix of problem just look at the energy situation in California but alas that is a different less.

That right there, in my mind, makes the whole poll invalid. How can you take two fairly disparate ideas and combine them to get anything even remotely accurate? From that standpoint, here's a statistic:

100% of all people in this poll either thought the government was directly involved, took no action, or was not involved in any way shape or form with the incidents of September 11, 2001.

Beat that, Scripps.

Since I fought in the war against these guys I think I can say that 1/3 of Americans need a hobby so they so not have time to come up with stupid ideas. Is it so improbable to say that there are people in the world that want to hurt Americans? I mean come on we are the last superpower right now. Anyway I could rant on but I feel I have earned the right having risked my life to defend this nation against terrorist.

Much of the military was on heightened alert in the months leading up to the attacks... what the intel was that got them that way I couldn't say.  But many bases had their alert levels ramped up.

Either way... there are much easier ways to get the U.S. inflamed w/o killing that many people.  And if we simply wanted to attack Iraq, why not do something to implicate them more directly?  The Iraq tie-in to 9/11 is pretty round-about.  If you were going to stage the whole thing, why not just frame the Iraqi gov't?

It's rather sad that it's come to this...

Structuring a survey to get results you want is easy. Wording it so it's unbiased isn't.

I went to the original article at Scripps News and found this quote:

"The level of suspicion of U.S. official involvement in a 9/11 conspiracy was only slightly behind the 40 percent who suspect "officials in the federal government were directly responsible for the assassination of President Kennedy" and the 38 percent who believe "the federal government is withholding proof of the existence of intelligent life from other planets."

I'll give surveys from Scripps/Howard a bit of skepticism from now on, thank you.
