Racing Budget and Cost of Entry Fees

Usually between $70 (early entry) and $100.

Keep in mind that most of the race costs are not directly proportional to race distance.  

local sprints are around $65 - $85 depending how early i register.  i'm in a slightly higher than average cost of living area but there are several organizations that put on races so i think they are forced to be price competetive because of that.

Depends on when you sign up.  Typically $85 or so early, around 100 - 120 right now and then a little higher as the date approaches.

That being said I do a super sprint every year that's a small local race and not too well run.  I've done it for the last 4 years and the participant #'s keep going down.  This year I signed up last Nov for $35 after a 50% off email.   I have no idea if I'll even be able to do it but for that price I felt I had to sign up. 

I just did early entry for a couple of local sprint races last night:  $65 for one and $70 for the other. 

I did early entry for the Rev3 FL Oly in November a month or so ago and paid $105, including a club discount. 

I plan my races out a year out in advance and try to take advantage of early entry fees when I can.  I also get a lot of discounts through our local track and tri clubs. 

I'm fortunate to live in an area with a lot of local races, so I usually don't have any overnight travel expenses.  This year I'm planning on doing five triathlons (4 sprints and one Oly), and another seven or eight  running races.

The races I do in this area are affordable. My season this year consists of a sprint at $30, two oly's at $90 and $35 (not a typo). I'm on the fence on a HIM at $175 in September--that would be the only race that would require travel expense.

Some sprints around here can be that much. A few are more, but I tend to do ones more in the $60-75 range. Someone with a sharp eye can find an occasional $50 or so. Olympics tend to start around $100.

Heading out tomorrow for a sprint race in Va......75.00 for each kid.....and 800 miles away.  Entry fees are cheap.

I'm making my triathlon comeback after being away from the sport since 2007.  I got sticker shock when I saw how much entry fees had gone up over the years.  A sprint race that I did for many years went from $50 to up over $100. 

The two races I have on my schedule this year I'm doing through Team in Training so I don't have to worry about entry fees.  I just need to fund raise.  The other race I'm considering doing on my own will cost $175.  It's local so I wouldn't have the travel costs that I would incur if I do an out of town race.  But still is a lot of $$$.
