Subject: Anyone swim in Kelso yet?

Race is this weekend and I noticed the openwater group that swims out there cancelled their last 2 swims - including yesterday - because the water was too cold.  I haven't tried yet, but was hoping to maybe get out and swim before race day this week.

Hi Neil -

If it is like the last 2 years - be prepared for a cold one

Raced Woodstock yesterday and it was 16c close to shore - they measured it as 14c further down the course
You could actually feel the temperature difference as you left the shore

I wore a neoprene cap under the bathing cap and it helped

Some people tried Gulliver Lake last week and this weekend and they also cancelled it

Good luck

Jean

The difference 2 years ago was that it was so cold outside I remember sitting in the cold water because it felt warmer than the air temperature!  Guess I'm just going to have to double up on swim caps.  Might try and get in a swim on Saturday when they have packet pick up.

They posted that is was 16 degrees today. Same as Woodstock this past weekend. It was cool but do able especially if it is nice like it was on Sunday.

Good to know, and hopefully with the heat this week it will warm up another degree or so.

Indeed, I was a little worried when the Kelso Open Water Swim Club had reported it was only 9 C/41 F last week!

Yikes, that's cold.  I really need to try and swim on Saturday because I have a new wetsuit, but if I don't get out then I'm going to race in the old one.

Kelso was 66F yesterday. Client set a PB in his 750m swim on the Sprint; 10:38.

Water was perfect - unfortunately took my first ever DNF after the bike, but I was sick going into this so I knew this might happen.

Now, how does one (me) go from a 13:xx swim to a 10:xx swim (after swimming for 6 years)...

I first decided I was going to "do" a triathlon in 1994. It wasn't until 13 years later, in 2007 that I actually did. Why did it take me 13 years to get to the starting line? The swim!

Many people in the triathlon world think they need to just emulate Ian Thorpe to have a faster time, or have a similar stroke to Michael Phelps to cruise through the swim. Unfortunately...
