Can someone give me a legit opinion or experience with running in these for an Ironman? Or in training for one?
I have calf pain - just switched from Adrenaline's to Kayano 20s.
Thinking about some Hokas too ...
Please advise if you can!
Thanks.

You may not like Hoka's if you have calf problems. MO is Hoka's are great to alleviate trauma to the foot itself, but the cost is to your quads, calves, and knees, making them work harder. Yet I can run a long distance in them, and my feet feel decent afterwards, whereas my normal running shoes (let's say like Saucony Mirage ) my feet would feel way worse.
I have been running in Hoka's for a few years now, including various Bondi models (incl Bondi 3 ) and Stinson (trail ). I also did last year's IM in them.
For my particular issues (heal pain ) I felt Hoka's worked fairly well. Initially I was just using them so much for IM training, got to the point where i decided to use them for the race. Although my legs felt the brunt of the run, my feet were spared and I could walk the next day without much trouble.
I do try to rotate my regular running shoes with the Hoka's. For one, Hoka's are a neutral shoe, and I need a bit more support. Lately I've been using SuperFeet Orange in the Bondi 3's and with good success. |
