Enjoy your vacation Kim!

I've been out of it for 3 days...sick sick sick...the illness that found it's way to every other member of my family hit me hard Thursday and I'm still not feeling great. So no training for me...just lots of sleeping!

Been watching lots of movies about running though - does that count?

I'd recommend "Desert Runners" - about 4 ultras through 4 of the most extreme deserts and the people that try to do all 4 in one year. On Netflix right now - SO interesting!

Insanely jealous! Enjoy Hawaii. If you get a chance, run (or bike) Tantalus!

52 minutes of easy running here (hit my training goal of 200 hours today), plus what seemed to be hours of riding a tri bike around a residential neighborhood and on the trainer (finishing fit for P2). Ended up with new saddle and pedals--the ones on my road bike here are rusted/falling apart so figured I should invest in some new stuff. And no, I didn't come back with a new cat! (If that doesn't make sense, check the vet/P2 post.)

One more easy run this AM to make it to 201 for thr year, and then headed off to Sri Lanka for a bike tour. Will try to post a few pics. Happy travels/training/holidays to all!

RE "Desert Runners"--made me laugh as it reminded me of a very hot, high-altitude marathon that I actually won, sometime in my late 20's, probably because a lot of the field opted out at the halfway point ( they let you switch during the race).... I kept going as was in no particular distress but it was pretty tough. (That was the race where my mom yelled, "It's just you and the Kenyans" and, oddly, it was actually true. The male winners were two Kenyan dudes on a training run.) Anyway, as I crossed the line, almong with the usual finishing swag, i was handed a book about the Badwater race called "Marathon and Beyond: Into the Valley of Death". I don't know if this happens to others but I have ZERO emotional control at the end of a long event. I couldn't stop laughing, laughed so hard that I actually fell over and rolled on the grass! There was just something about the timing.....

Being in Hawaii sounds nice! 2h run planned (10-12 miles). I actually went 2h 5 mins and got 12.25 miles. I've been doing my runs this month sans technology (no garmin, HR monitor, music, etc) and it's been a welcome break after the last 4 months of garmin watching. 32 miles for the week, building back up for another marathon at the end of February!

Do we really need chia, spelt, and quinoa? Is anything wrong with old-fashioned peanut butter, broccoli and brown rice?

We have new 10 and 20 week training plans for the New Year! These mini sprint plans are very conservative and will get any person thinking of training for a triathlon ready to cross the finish-line.

Cotswold super sprint - UK. Lots of bodies colliding, I swam half over someone, got kicked by some bloody breaststroker, and as a mob we poured towards the first buoy.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
