Subject: New to tri
Hello,

I've been a lurker for a little while. I finally decided to create an account and join in. I typically avoid forums like the plague. I have a few questions that I haven't seen answers to yet. Chances are that they are here, but I haven't searched properly to find the answers. Please bear with me if I'm being repetitive.

A bit about me - I have been running for years. I'm finding that I'm growing bored with it. I ran a four triathlons in 2014 (two indoor and two sprints). I even had a USAT membership card. :)I really enjoyed the experience. I didn't perform very well, but then again, there was no training involved other than my typical running training and fitness. There are a few things that I can do to instantly improve. A swim class and a real bike would go a long way.

I've decided that I'm going to get serious about tri in 2016, starting immediately. I'll be joining a gym with a pool tomorrow. Let's see where this road goes...

Cheers!

Kevin

Hi Kevin, welcome and thanks for coming out of the shadows

Some of our mentor groups are still open for new members; they're great for support and advice. Links are at the top of this forum and the main Tri Talk one. All the best!

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
