Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Arrived in plenty of time for marking and get my timing chip. Racked my bike and arranged shoes, bike helmet, glasses, et al.
Event warmup:

Swam several easy paced laps in the diving pool. The water temp felt good, just right.
Swim
  • 08m 25s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 49s / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

It's long run out of the Natatorium to the TZ.

Once in T1, I had a little trouble getting my shoes on, but everything else went fine. Helmet on first, then glasses, then shoes, hit the Garmin on the way out. Stopped once past the red line - mounted up and pedaled away.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 31m 7s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Not pleased with the bike results this time. The course is pretty much the same as in previous years. My speed, while slower this time, did leave some gas in the tank for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Earlier training on the cycle.
Transition 2
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Got in a small stretch just before dismount. Rode in with feet on top of my shoes, dismounted and trotted over to the rack, while unclipping my helmet in route.
Run
  • 43m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 13m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I think this is my best result for this race - ever. I ran at a slower pace, but was able to pretty much maintain the pace throughout. I did walk maybe 2-3 times for 15 steps or so.

And thanks to the guys that passed me and said," less than 1/2 mile to go - kick it!"
What would you do differently?:

Train more prior to the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water, strolled around inside the gymnasium to cool off. By the time I'd finished I was pretty hot.

Event comments:

The volunteers were great - much appreciated. The staff at packet pick-up were accommodating and very helpful as I requested to re-arrange my start time.

There was just 1 drink station during the run ... midway and that was it. Also, post race, there were no drinks, snacks, etc - just water.

Great report. I think you missed the big tent with the food and drinks, post-race. They had all the: Pizza; chips; soft drinks; red bulls; fruit; etc... you could ever want, there.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
