Subject: RE: Need an assist from the Scotch drinkersBruichladdich 15 yr Islay is good. My absolute fave is Highland Park 18 yr from the Orkney Islands: Named “Best Spirit in the World” by noted author F. Paul Pacult (Spirit Journal: The Independent Guide to Distilled Spirits, Wine and Beer, 2005), this is rich and spicy with Highland Park's calling cards of peat, heather honey, and smokiness. From the most northerly whisky distillery in the world, this single malt is as hearty, independent and traditional as the people who make it. Two others I've had the pleasure of are: Glenlivet Cellar Collection 1972 Speyside is pricy at $700/bottle, but as good, or better, is Praban 'Na Linne Poit Dhubh 30 yr unfiltered fro Isle of Skye, at $400. This one was unforgettable...mmm... |
