Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I too was dumped in favor of Dad taking them. I stayed home and answered the door for a total of 8 ding-dongs - I live in a neighborhood with oh, say 200+ kids and I only get 12 kids. I'm really depressed abou this. Not to hyjack thread BUT: Real sad how the churches around here convince parents not to let there kids go out and instead come to the churches for a "Fall" festival.... I mean really, what harm is there dressing up and showing off some custome? I mean if they read evil into that it's from their own minds - kids don't think like that unless the parents expose those thoughts and images to them. I just don't see any harm in taking children out dressed up and going door to door for candy. This from parents who as children fully enjoyed the day and are now depriving their children of the same fun. Secondly, this is Houston, we don't have a Fall season, just "sweltering hot" (I have Ac on today) and hot. Who are they trying to kid??? On the up side my kiddo's made out like bandits! Now I just have to will myself away from their bags. Back to Lara's program of being dumped.... Edited by houston-tri-mamma 2006-10-31 8:02 PM |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not belittling anyones faith and religion, I just find it rather sad. The parents I know who won't let their children participate are the same folks who enjoyed the holiday when they were young and they came to no harm. I'm glad to hear someone is having little trick or treaters ding-dong their door tonight Edited by houston-tri-mamma 2006-10-31 8:05 PM |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So sorry you got dumped....I can remember the first time it happened to me. Except it was when my big brother went trick or treating with his friends, and I wasn't allowed to come. ![]() |

molto veloce mama![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() awww. i'm sorry. this is what we want, right? independence? there's something to be said for the fact that he communicates with you so well that he could tell you he wanted to go on his own. i know i'd have a hard time feeling proud in that moment though...i'm sure i'd feel 'dumped' too. lucky for me that ella not only wanted me to come with her, but was so spooked at some houses that she wanted me to hold her hand. i'm enjoying it while it lasts. ![]() |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Apropos of nothing... Superman stopped by my house tonight!!! He was about 3 1/2 feet tall and accompanied by an even smaller pink fairy, with a grown-up dressed like a mom lurking in the shadows behind them. It was awesome. We don't get a lot of trick-or-treaters here. So the rest of the candy is for us. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds like the perfect excuse to scare the living crap out of some unsuspecting trick or treaters. My personal favortie....climb on the roof with some previously cooked spaghetti and drop it down on unsuspecting victims. muahahahaha. They feel just like worms. |

He went dressed as Superman, and I went dressed in my black trench coat (it was drizzling) and my black clerical shirt with collar prominently displayed. Two reasons: I had a meeting afterward at church, <b>and</b> I think for some people there is little in this world scarier than a pastor coming to your door unannounced. BWAAA HAAA HAAAA!!! (Oh yeah... and to prove that some of us can have some fun Peace. |

This is the best halloween story ever...I think a pastor with a great sense of fun and humor is so great...and the fact that you allowed your child to go T or Ting is great. |

![]() | ![]() We had well over three hundred kids last night, maybe closer to four hundred. Too many to count exactly. Thankfully, friends and their kids came over for pizza and then took turns handing out candy. Halloween in our neighborhood is truly spectacular. I took my 4 and 1 year old out for the local parade and then trick or treating. Then, my 4 year old came home with his bag of candy and dumped it into the big basket of candy that we were handing out. He spent the rest of the night having a ball handing candy out himself. He seemed more interested in the take and give than in hording his own candy. All in all, it was a great eve. And happy All Saints Day to ya'll. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We actually do a "Trunk-or-Treat" at our church. It's open to the community. Kids dress up however they want. We block off a section of our parking lot and people decorate their cars and hand out candy out of their trunks. It's a blast!! One of my favorite events of the year. We find parents love it...it's a safe environment (trafficwise), their kids get a ton of candy, they enjoy seeing the cars all decorated. It's a way to show the community we care about their kids. It's not an attempt to discourage the door-to-door trick or treating, just an attempt at community service. Not unsimilar to what a lot of shopping malls do.... edit...our kids all went trick-or-treating too (the ones still young enough). Hey...I love candy! And they share....sometimes :-)
