I've got so many problems with this article that it is hard to know where to begin. Firstly, the assumption that gay=feminine. Secondly, the assertion that, and I quote, "homosexuality is always deviant". Thirdly...this man is no where near a doctor in ANYTHING to be commenting about this sort of thing.

It is things like this that make me want to leave the US.

Oh, and check out the lovely T-shirts they sell.

Sounds like the blokes got a small todger, secretly fancies Brad Pitt despite being married and is looking for someone to blame - I suspect he went after whatever was on the table at the time.

Not worth getting angry with such complete and utter bufoonery, the world needs idiots like this to make it easier for the rest of us to get good jobs and good looking partners.  I also hope someone like this has the interview before me when I go for a job.  All I've got to do is not p1ss my pants and I've got the position.  So far, I've only failed to get one job on these grounds.

It is things like this that make me want to leave the US.

Gee, it's things like that that make me want to stay.  Because if people like that are allowed to speak whatever they want, then that means anybody else can, too.  There's a lot of other countries where a dissident voice doesn't get heard ever.

Or is this one of those, "It's intolerant/wrong in my viewpoint, therefore I think it should be banned" stances?

And there's a lot of countries where dissident voices aren't saying things like "Tree. Rope. Journalist. Some assemply required".

This is one of those "it's intolerant/wrong in my viewpoint, therefore I think they should stop spreading misinformation" stances.

You're right, the dissidents aren't saying that in many countries.  Mostly because the journalists are the dissidents.  Again, it's freedom of speech.  You don't have to like what everyone says, but that doesn't give them any less of a right to say it.  I've been called quite a few names merely because of the clothes I was wearing / profession.

Again, there are countries where, as Scout alluded, you can be jailed, even executed, for expressing an opinion such as "Tree. Rope. Journalist. Some assemply required". If you feel that is preferable, go find one of those. You have that right, though once there you may not have the right to leave.

Did I ever say anything about taking away their right to say it?

Nope.

I said a whole lot about thinking that it is a completely backwards and wrongheaded way of thinking.

And therefore I don't think that way.

I'm against taking away rights on the whole...in fact, I'm more FOR GIVING rights. Of marriage, of the right to abortion, right to privacy, of access to healthcare. Turns out there are countries in the world where these things are, well, rights.

This is just a place I live, it's not who I am at all. My way of life, my style of thinking, the things that my me happy...aren't really found in "america" the nation. The people I love happen to be americANs. And I'll bring them with me when I leave.

But you said that it was stuff like that that makes you want to leave.  When someone posts something they disagree with, then says they want to leave, what am I supposed to think?  Well, here is what I think: that what you're effectively saying is that you don't like it here, but it would be better if people like the one you disagree with were not around, or were unable to state their opinions.  So instead of perhaps working to correct this person's beliefs, or to provide a counterpoint, you'd rather make the problem go away.

None of those things you listed are rights, by the way.  Marriage is a religious ceremony, and religions should decide who and how they marry.  Abortion is not a right, it's a medical procedure.  You feel that people should have access to it.  That doesn't make it a "right".   Privacy.....What right do you think you should have over privacy?  Unless I'm mistaken, you do have quite a bit of privacy.  We tend to sell our privacy much more readily than we care to admit, and not to our government, but to other private citizens and businesses.  Healthcare is a right?  It's been a while since my Poli Sci days, but I don't seem to recall access to a GP included anywhere in the Constitution.   As I've said before, I'm willing to meet you halfway on this one: I'll give you national health coverage, if you give me national service as a pre-req, and allow the government to place you based on need and ability.

As an aside, I personally feel that there are no "rights" per se.  Rights are a construct of man, and as such only exist in language.  But then, I also think that morals are an enhanced survival instinct applied to the group.

Lol. If that is Ireland, you are right. I have played golf there. Gorgeous. Weather was abysmal though. Rained constantly and was cold. I understood why I lot of people drink and emigrate.

Regarding leaving the US, which this thread has turned into, I think it takes more courage to stay and make a difference rather than flee for some place that is perceived as 'better'.

America is so frickin diverse that there is no such thing as a national culture. Geez, I think 70% of Americans don't like Bush. But he represents us to much of the world.

And I think it is a minimal part of the population that thinks Soy would make a person gay.

Cheers

The thing is, I don't think she is leaving because she dislikes America, I think its more a matter of where you feel you belong.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Because estrogen is a polar molecule, it is extremely soluble in alcohol. Therefore, I suggest that enough tequilla could flush it from your system before the gayness takes hold.
