Sounds worse than it actually is...maybe.

I don't expect anyone to admit to having this problem too for the sake of saving them the embarrasment. But a friend of a friend gets very gassy when he runs. They used to not bother him that much on the 3 mile runs, but any longer runs and the area of exit gets irritated. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this for those long runs? His diet perhaps?

Not all together. But stop farting with every 2 or 3 strides taken after the 3 mile mark.

LOL, I had to open this thread.  You mean there are people that don't fart when they run?  Or just don't admit it?

My name is Chris, and I fart when I run, especially in the morning.  OK, not every stride, but often enough

I will freely admit to farting when I run

This is only really a problem when I am at the gym on the treadie or passing a large dog out on the trail. (Dogs seem to notice more than people do for some reason)

During longer runs and races I also get the Collywobbles. (Which seems to be related somehow) Something about the decreased blood flow to the "Inner Plumbing" is how it was explained to me.

LOL- is it possible to not fart when you run??

During IM FL all I heard on the run course was burping and farting.  There was no shame out there.

At least I know that my "friend" is not alone anymore.

Have any of you ever gotten chaffing or a rash type symptoms from it? I should have tried to explain that better in my first post. Thank you for letting my "friend" know that he is not alone.

Um...I've had a lot of strange things happen to me, but never that.  No rashes from farting.  Does he have hemmroids or something???  Could the rash be from his shorts or wahtever chaffing in that particular area?

Re you sure you're just farting, and not "leaking" and causing a rash?

I always fart when doing all three, and wonder whether the lifeguard at the Y notices my fart bubbles.

I also have a "friend" that farts during excercise, but "he" said it just happens at the begining or warm up part of it and then he's ok..."My friend" also recommends that you don't "force" them out...just let them be free...that may help, "he said"

Definetly not "leaking" or eatting "olestra." Just a lot of farts.

Thanks for the bodyglide and not forcing it tips. I'll tell him to try it.

I had to open this and weigh in.

I get the farts really bad whenever I run, especially in the morning and when I run longer than an hour without taking in solids.  I always associated it with my body trying to find additional nutrients, so it kicks the intestinal system into drive and thus opens up the floodgates.

I've also found that nothing acts like a laxative as much as an early morning run without any food or water before hand.  I end up completely cleaned out by the time I'm done after I get back.

TMI? Probably.  Humorous?  You tell me:

OK, one tip on the BodyGlide...buy TWO of them. WRITE ALL OVER one of them *BUTT* (can I say that here?) or your favorite distinguishing word so that you don't ever get them mixed up.

trust me my friend on this one
