I enjoy receiving flowers for now particular reason, but it's been a while since my husband bought them.  So I kinda wondered if everything was ok or not??  Well today I got a dozen roses, no special occasion, just 'cuz read the card....  And he also wrote on the card - you go girl -  well certainly made my day!!  As he (and others) have noticed a difference in the body, reshaping 'cause of the extra exercise.... So to all who have doubts - -  keep at it - -  it does pay off !!!!

"Mormons can't give flowers?"

"No. I said, more *men*!"

"Yeah, I heard you. Why can't Mormons give flowers?"

Love that episode of cheers....

sigh...and I really don't care...more men, mormons, hell just *one* man....I WANT SOME FLOWERS!!!!

Kinda got out of the habit of buying flowers when a couple of "I'm sorry" gestures went straight to the trash. I would have thought flowers would be a good peace offering... maybe she wanted Tri-gear.

I got roses for my birth from a friend. But I really enjoyed the plant I got from my ex-boyfriend to wish me luck on my Danskin Tri. So I have to say plants for my triathlon beats roses for my birthday anytime! But it's nice to get both. Ovetta.

Now that I think about it I don't think it was a case of plants versus roses rather a case of liking who gave me the plant more than the person who gave me the roses! (Sigh, Ode to Old Loves)

Both! The roses will allow you to save more without her saying "don't you think we need this money to feed the kids?" or something of the like. ;-)

From my experience, I would say forget about the roses and go for the jewelry. By the time you get around to buying the tri-bike, she will have forgotten the roses. The jewelry, however, will still be around as a constant reminder of how thoughtful you are.

Gotta' be careful with the jewelry though. A year ago I started working in NYC and on my first big trip, I brought back some earrings from that teal box place - you know, the one with the white ribbons... Now that I go out there once a month for a week (on average), I hope that I didn't start an unrealistic precedent...

Oh, and to answer the original question. Yes, women always deserve roses. Even if it's just to keep them on their toes. Nothing says "I'm sorry even if I haven't done anything wrong" when she's obviously ticked off at you for no reason. Timing is everything though. If you did something to tick your woman off, don't have flowers waiting for her BEFORE she finds out. That just makes them more mad

Ok, BigBoy, Scuba Punk, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tutor my boyfriend in the art of romance! Now THAT'S Mission Impossible. *sigh* He's wonderful and I love him, but he doesn't understand that it's ok to occasionally do something just to make me happy (he also doesn't get that there's a connection between that and things I do to make him happy....)

I know, I know. It's ludicrous. Kids are all "Mommy, I'm hungry." It's just take, take, take with them. They never think about what Mommy wants. ;-)

Send him my way. I work for tips and the pride of bettering the human race no matter how futile. :P

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the little lady much lately. She got a promotion (not the wetsuit) and she's always at work and go do my workouts when she gets home so that someone can stay with the buttmonkeys in the evening. hmm, I'll be at a birthday party when she gets home from NYC on Sunday afternoon... Maybe I'll get some fresh flowers for her. And a six pack of some yummy microbrew. Eh, forget it, she can buy her own beer I'll put the flowers on the end table where we put our phones and sunglasses... I'll see if she notices.

The buttmonkeys. LOL!

I'm glad I have a job that will never ask more than 40 hrs per week of me. I think it would suck to have such limited time with your family like your wife. I'd want maximum time with my hubby and buttmonkeys. :-)

See, I wouldn't want the flowers even. If Eric bought me a 6-pack of something nice, slapped a bow on it and handed it to me, I'd be the happiest girl in the world!!! I might even give him one or two! I think I'm pretty easy to please. :-)

I'm kinda bummed, because watching the Today Show this morning, they did a "Fall Colors Report" and showed that the CO Rockies are at their peak right now. So, I went and woke him up and told him we were gonna go on a drive tomorrow through the mountains and I'd pack a picnic and we could take a couple of short hikes along the way. Just us and Barry (the doggie-dog). Well, his Ultimate Frisbee team changed around practices (they practice a LOT, takes up the majority of evenings a week, they're a Nationals level team) so that they have to practice twice this weekend, so we can't go. And he'll be gone to Regionals next weekend and after that it'll be too late. I feel like calling up his captain and bitching at him until he lets Eric off the hook. But I won't.

I don't know why I just told you all that. Needed to vent, I guess. Sorry.....

You just have to give your boyfriend time to learn. We men are notoriously slow learners. What little I know about romance has taken many years and too many painful lessons to even count. My wife tells all of her friends, that she would never even think of leaving me. She says that it's taken her 17 years to train me and that she just doesn't have the energy to start all over again training another man.

It takes a lot of time and patience to train a man and its best done by a woman. When men get toghether, we tend to just learn disgusting habits, eat bad food, and drink too much beer.

Yeah, you're right, BigBoy. He is tough to train. Especially compared to my dog. We taught him to roll over in 2 ten minute sessions. But Eric.... yeesh! I'm trying to use positive reinforcement methods, but it presents the same conundrum as it does in dog training. You have to wait for the man/dog to do what you want them to do before you can praise them!

And don't take offense at my dog/man comparisons! I'm such a dog lover, it's a compliment!

Naw, you're right about dogs being easier to train. Dogs (buttmonkeys in previous thread - I didn't even realise I did that until I read your reply) are social, pack minded animals. They are all about heirarchy, finding their place in it, living to please those on the next rung up and taking what they can from the rung below. Men on the other hand are all about heirarchy, assuming their place in it, living to please no one and taking what they can from wherever. Now, being latino, I have a smidgen of genetic code to help me out with a strong start, but the last 34 years (OK, 24 consciously) has all been a magical journey of mojo kaizen

Give him some time to come around. I'm sure in 20 years, he'll dope slap himslef and go "DOH!" for missing a special day with you just to go throw a frisbee around.

The best info I can give to any guy came from, of all people, Joe Rogan (Fear Factor host). It paraphrases like this "Every woman has her own moves. You CAN NOT use one woman's moves on another women. It's a really bad idea to do that. It is imperative that you take the time to learn all of her moves from scratch." Truer words have never been spoken. Unfortunately for me (and partly because of my gold allergy that required us to get platinum wedding bands), it used to only be beer and flowers for Wifey. Platinum jewelry is usually worth a couple of cases of beer Unfortunately for me, I don't own the engineering company, I just work there...

I make Eric sound bad! Really, I'm phenomenally happy with him. A little bit of romance would just be the icing on the cake. Like teaching Barry to roll over. He was a fabulous dog before, but now he's a fabulous dog I can show off and brag about, because, hell, he can roll over!!!! LOL!

We're getting a washer tonight and he's paying for most of it, so I guess I should be doing a happy dance! That's romance... no more laundromat!!!!
