Subject: USAT Age Group Nationals

Who here has been to Age Group Nationals?  I have a question about qualifying and my age group.  If I read through the rules carefully I see that "Any non-championship USAT sanctioned event will qualify the top 10 percent or top finisher (whichever is greater) in each age-group."  So if I recently won my AG in a USAT sanctioned event, then that would qualify me for the 2008 event correct?  I am not currently a USAT member, but that shouldnt have any impact on it (I hope not).

I have sent an email to USAT National Events, but get an out of office reply.  I know its a long way away but still Im curious if this is for real?  Also since I am 28 now, but will be 30 as of 12/31/2008 will that mean I would compete in the 30-34 AG?

You're 28 now, but if you were a USAT member, your racing age would be 29. Next year, you'll compete in the 30-34 age group (doesn't matter that you qualified in a different AG, you still compete in whatever AG you're in at the time).

If you won your AG in a USAT sanvtioned race, then you qualified. You will have to become a USAT member, though, to register for Nationals.

My experience with USAT is that they aren't all that responsive to emails... Pity.

Not to hyjack, but....  When it says top 10% does that mean that if there are 10 people 1 gets in, 20 people 2 get in, etc. ?  What about say 22 people in the age group, is that still just 2 ( in other words is it just each 10?)?

That's the way I interpret it (less than 30 in the AG means only 2 qualify), but for a definitive answer, you would, unfortunately, have to go to USAT...

Hm. So, 9/102 in my AG at a USAT-sanctioned race would mean I am qualified? I didn't know this.

A friend of mine finished 2/19 and called USAT and they let her register, even though she was just out of the top 10% in the AG.

I just would not feel right racing unless I qualified, at least for AG Nationals. Kona now thats another story, I would take a lottery slot bc I doubt Ill ever Qual for that.
