Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge Given there has already been a Swim - Bike Challenge this mornth Im going to start a RUN challenge for October (hope there will be a few people interested!!) Here is the pitch..... Runners, Run/Walkers and Walkers alike its time for an October Challenge... keep yourself active and busy in the off season, it will be fun, it will be supportive and it will keep you training through the off season or gearing up for fall marathon season... (Unless you are Down Under like me then it will make sure you stick with consistent running into the tri season) Its simple, post your intention to participate below then work out the total time or distance (depending on your training schedule) you are going to run between 1 - 31 October. If you love to run, hate to run or need a reason to run this will keep your motivation going!!! The emphasis here is on being FUN and supportive This will be a TEAM event with the teams based on scary characters in honour of Halloween at the end of the month! I will announce the team rosters by Monday October 1 in the AM (USA time) and as with other challenges friendly banter will be encouraged BUT dont forget to back it up with action!!! Challenge starts Monday October 1st AND... there will be a penalty shot of your lower half in tights, tri shorts or running shorts (or if you are brave even less) for your avatar in the event of your team not making 1st place (mmm hot triathlete legs) (gotta find something to replace the hot girls in swimsuits that will be coming down at the end of September ) Most importantly this is meant to be FUN!!! So enjoy, encourage, inspire and have FUN!!!! The Challenge Rules: 1. Teams will be assigned at random but any special requests will be honoured where possible 2. Team captains will be determined by each of the inidividual teams and I will supply a spreadsheet to track your teams totals 2. I will post the initial team line ups on October 1. Late additions will of course be more than welcome! 3. The winning team will be determined but the overall % of goal achieved by the team. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the amount of team members who reached their own individual goal. 4. Individuals who achieve more than their committed stages will not have these additional runs counted towards their team total but please add them to the reporting so we can acknowledge your team members hard work 5. Run, Run/Walking and walking can all be included depndant on your individual training goals BUT they will need to be logged as a run in your training log 6. Team members will be required to post their weekly results with their team leader each Monday with team leaders sending me their team results by Tuesday afternoon so I can try and get all tracking online Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (USA time of course!) 7. In the event of longterm illness or injury team members can withdraw from the challenge or amend goals. Please notify your team captain and myself 8. I will maintain a team leaders thread for any issues that may arise and to keep everyone up to date with any information or queries 9. All training must be logged in your training log, if its not there it didnt happen! (Im trusting everyone to log their training honestly) 10. The teams who do not come first int he challenge will be required to change their avatar for the month of November to a lower body shot showing off those hot toned triathlete/runner legs etc 11. Distance/times run in races count as part of your monthly total Time to go running and have some FUN! |

Master 1809 hiding in your closet | Subject: RE: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge gawd i hate running, but im in for 20 miles. i have ran a total of 50 for the year so far, so 20 is really pushing it. i think a challenge is going to be my best motivator, with others relying on me to do my best just might get me out there in the weather. what am i getting myself into? |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge I'm in for an even 100 miles (do I even bike that much?). Recruiting a newbies team. We're soft and sensitive and scared, so please be nice (ah ha ha ha) ... P.S. If you're a newbie, do NOT under any circumstances look at that 100-mile figure (I'm talking about the pledge, not my avatar) as a suggestion. Figure out how much you can reasonably run/walk this coming month and go with that. Nobody cares how low the figure might be, we really just want you to participate and have a great time. Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge Okay, I'm in...I will do at least 135, maybe a couple more depending upon "how I feel bricks" and how long I'm stuck waiting in Kuwait to fly to the states. I'm a newbie to the site, this is the first challenge I've accepted. Used to hate running, now I find it fun! |

Champion 7554 Albuquerque, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge OK...I ran 39 in August and 24 so far this month. October usually runs into sloppy weather, so 30 miles is pretty aggressive (not many weekends available to catch up with long runs either). Astars are fine (well the current crop of astars are really, really, fine) but the idea may be getting a little stale. How many people would be willing to post pics of their worn-out dogs (i.e. feet, sans shoes and socks) after the challenge? |

Im always open to suggestions.... if no one objects we could give the winning team the choice on what the others have to photograph as long as its reasonable? (nothing in bad taste) Although if I have to show my feet can I get a pedicure first???
And a HUGE welcome to everyone thats signed up so far!!!!!!! Edited by kaqphin 2007-09-28 6:47 AM |

Master 1573 Red Sox Nation | Subject: RE: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge Well, my paltry pledge of 40 miles 'pales.' I live in SoFla ... I have to work NOT to tan! BUT! I want to beat my running totals from last year, and 40 fits the bill. Plus, I want to to do a Cat Challenge! |

Elite 4504 Columbus, Ohio | Subject: RE: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge I'm game... Count me in for 80 mi. or ~2.5mi per day. It is more than I have done in any month EVER but I plan on running a lot this month. I like the feet idea as well, since it is a running challenge. The azzatars are getting a little stale. Very humorous, butt (pun) a little stale. |

Master 1480 Southwest Chicago 'burbs | Subject: RE: Running is fun? Or even FUN! October Challenge I'll play. I'm doing the Chicago Marathon on October 7th, so my mileage for the month won't be too high, but I want to make sure I keep doing SOMEthing once my season is essentially over. I'll commit to 50 miles... that should push me to get out. Do half in one shot, and then cover the other half afterwards over 3 weeks. |

I'm down for the newbie team! I SUCK A$$ at running, but at least with the nicer weather approaching, I can enjoy a nice afternoon jaunt outside without dying of heat exhaustion. Plus, if I want to run this 10K with some friends locally (or the BT VA crew), I could use the practice. Let me think about my mileage and I'll post with that later. |
