Subject: Let's dump Lake Crabtree for Falls Lake for Triangle Tri!

I attended the Setup Championship this past weekend at Falls Lake and had a GREAT time!  Rode the bike course with a friend (1001 ft. of climb in 25.6 miles, so not TOO steep).  The park is very nice and open, the lake very pretty, the run very similar to Lake Crabtree County Park.  So.  Why not change the Triangle Triathlon to this venue?

Transition area would be on pavement (hot in July, yes, I know), but you wouldn't have such congestion like at Lake Crabtree with bikes and runners sharing the same narrow lanes for a great deal of the race. 

I've plotted about a 15.25 mile bike course that would take you up Hwy. 50 about 1.5 miles, right on SR1901, left on Old Fellowship Rd, continue on SR1722, right on Perry Farm Rd, merge onto 50 again for about 1.25 miles, left onto Rogers Ave. in Creedmoor, left onto SR1724 (Northside Rd), left onto SR1728 (Cash Rd.), left again onto SR1901 (on the other side of 50), then right (south) on 50 for about 1.5 miles again straight back to the park.

 Anyone else with me on this?  Should we petition Setup to consider this venue?

I think that is a great idea. Being new to this sport, I did not choose the closest race because it was at Lake Crabtree. I was a little bit scared to swim in the contaminated lake that the news is always talking about. (Maybe I'm just being a weirdo.)That would be great to have it at Falls Lake though. Even Jordan Lake is nice.

 Yes, I did Triangle in '06, and I'm still washing the muck out of my tri-top.  I wouldn't want to compete with Duke Half by having it at Jordan, but that's certainly an option!  I'd love nothing more than a sprint right in my backyard!

Falls Lake is a beautiful venue.  You should send Bill S. an email and see what his response is?  I wonder if he'll continue the Championship race since he's had such a low turnout.

I've recently wondered why they didn't reclaim the site they used to use for the Iron Devil race... for another local site.  All I heard was compliments about the course from the participants..... with exception to the first year's run course... through duke's campus... that part sucked!

I love the Falls Lake idea! I did this race in 2006 and I won't do it again. My sports bra that I wore that day that used to be gray is now permanently brown. I work right near there and run out there a lot and I can't tell you how many snakes I've seen out there. Think it would do any good to email Setup? It's probably too late for 2008, but maybe they can start thinking about '09.
