So I have a scenario question for everyone:

You are out cross country skiing after receiving about 2 feet of snow in little over 3 days and the evergreens are holding all that pretty looking powder - Until the wind blows or you hit a low branch - and the next thing you know you are covered in snow or skiing through a mini-blizzard.

Does this count as heavy precipitation or just bad luck?

I counted light precip when the wind was whipping up all the loose powder through over half my hike. I figured what did it matter if it was actually falling from the sky or being driven horizontally? I didn't count the dumps, though.

Alas, looks like my standings are gonna plunge just as the temp does. I now have to sleep in the morning because I have meetings all week at night from here until spring. I love nighttime hiking and will try to get some in where I can, but there goes my regular workout time. Too dangerous on the rural windy road with snowbanks for shoulders. POUT!

So can we all combine out points together to give LumberDad some competition?

I might not get any point tomorrow, they are calling for -23F plus a wind chill of -50F or colder. They have already closed all the area school. Guess the dog will have to go for a very short walk, too bad they don't have a doggy tredmill.

I got some good points today, weather was -30C(-22F) and with the wind it was like -38C or so.

But i was happy that the plan was calling for only a 20 min run

It is -30ish here right now - too cold to run even if I WASN'T sick!

I'm considering trying to run at night. My work has gotten beastly boring, all I do is surf the web all night. So I'm thinking, once it warms back up to around 0 or so, that I'll just sneak out and cruise the streets. There aren't any trees so it is pretty easy to see, and very little traffic especially at 2 or 3 am. I have a shower at work so I could warm up. I'm just worried about getting caught - even if I punch out, my supervisor would be PI$$ED at me. She's just like that. I can't deal with my schedule shift and missing out on my morning runs - I couldn't sleep today because my legs wanted to go go go! Besides, we gotta at least TRY to keep up with LumberDad!

We all know it's impossible ... Maybe if we all chiped in and pay him a vacation somewhere really warm for a month or two we would have a chance :p

A vacation would be nice from the cold weather we have had the last couple days (-17 & -18 the last two mornings). I did cut down on my outside time, just enought time to get my dog his run in and keep my ST 100/100 going.

I did stop counting my evening walk with the dog, was hoping that would help some.

Lumber - if you are man enough to go out in the weather you keep logging the points!  I have no shame being behind someone with your intestinal fortitude!!!

I could have run 2-3 days in the type of weather and I dreadmilled it so keep it up!

x2, dude the contest is outside excercise. You keep logging it. Outside is outside.

I got my first frozen beard last night.  It was awesome.  I went to wipe some excess around the nostril area and I took my gloves off to feel it.  Ice Ice Baby!  Helps with the snow falling at the same time also.

Pretty cool feeling and those points were fun to earn last night.  Now this morning that is a different story

Be careful with that icy beard. If you don't wipe it away frequently you risk it forming into a big junk of ice that freezes to your face and hurts like hell to rip off.

First race of the year coming up Sunday morning. It is a Quadrathlon - run 3 miles, bike 3 miles, snowshoe 3 miles, then ski 3 miles. They are calling for a low of -12F Saturday night, should be a fun race. Maybe there will be a lot of now shows and I can win.

I survived my Quadrathlon yesterday. Temp at the start was -9, by the time I finished 2:12 later it was still -3. All the events went good except for the sking. With the cold weather the snow was almost squeeky which ment you had to work a lot harder. After all the other events I had nothing left for the skiing.

I did get a lot of crappy weather points though.
