Subject: RE: Sale on Javelin complete bikes
I have been following the thread and just purchased two parmas, one for me 55 and one for my wife 47.  my wife is 5'1", inseam 27.  Does any one know if the 47 will be ok for her measurements.  Any info on what the parma is outfitted with?  Thanks...

Can someone give me some information on the Campy Mirage line? I am a newbie to the road bike and campy products in general. Is it good stuff? What are the upgrade options like (i.e. is it expensive?) Thanks in advance for helping out a novice.

I think on page 7 or 8 of this thread there is a great breakdown of all the components.

Mirage is entry level - a little better than Sora IMO.  Uprgrading components on Campy is a bit less expensive than it is on Shimano or SRAm.  You can buy upgrade kits for under $400 to go up to Veloce and Centaur for around $500.  You would have to do the work yourself or pay a LBS to do it.  You can't get prices like that at an LBS though.  About $850 to go to Chorus and about $1200 to go to Record.

It is hard to equate the parts, but Mirage is somewhere between Sora and 105, Veloce is right around the Shimano 105, Centaur is Ultegra, Chorus is Ultegra SL, and Record is Dura-Ace.  These are estimates and are not unequivocally true statements.

Well I road my bike for about 2 miles. Seems pretty fast but since I did not have my garmin on it its hard to tell. I had problems shifting but that is because I am not used to riding in aero and I barely road in areo Plus I did not tighten the bull horns down tight enough. Otherwise its not bad but I definately need to ride more outside. lucky for me I think I would a couple of places.

I also not using the clipless on it until I feel confortable in aero position and moving to the breaks.

I finally got to ride mine and it's Rox my sox! (Fara) ... Although the breaks seemed a little soft when on the hoods... seemed like they would kinda slide on the rims for awhile? The breaking seemed sharper when down in the drops though so maybe I'm not pulling hard enough when up there?

Is it just a matter of changing out to better break... um what are they called? pads? the black rubber things...

Could someone confirm the components on the Narni and Varese? I know they were listed on the first page but it didn't match up w/what Geoff told me on the phone.
Thanks!

Specifically, what parts do you want confirmation on? I have a Varese and while I didn't check all the parts, mine seems to be spec'ed as listed on the first page. I know I have the same Campy parts, aerobar setup, cranks, wheels & tires (and crappy seat )

On my Varese, derailers are both Veloce & bar-end shifters are un-named Campy, but I can't imagine they sell enough bar-end shifters to warrent different levels to be produced.

Anyone else's Parma have all xenon parts? According to the specs, it should avehad a mirage front deraileur and mirage shifters, but mine has xenon rear deraileur and xenon shifters. Is this worth calling Geoff over?

Funny you should ask. A co-worker who also bought a Parma thought his shifters were Xenon. Just checked mine. Yup Xenon all the way around (Front & Rear deraileur and shifters).

Looks like that JPG must be for a different year then these bikes. Now I wonder about the Garda's.

When I ordered my Parma's this morning Geoff said they where outfitted with xenon all around.  I have seen the PDF spec sheet which is a few notes back in the thread.  The spec sheet comes from a site other than Javelin so I would not take it as authority.  Can any other new parma owners comment on what their bikes are outfitted with, just out of curiosity?

Overall, I think its still a great deal.  I am new to the sport as well as my wife ( as soon as she delivers our 3rd child this Sept.... next year honey).  we are excited, maybe a little nervous about putting the bikes together when they come next week.

The problem is I do not know what year the brochure in the JPG is from and I do not know what year the bikes are. So I really don't think someone made up a fake brochure It is more likely the bikes are 2005 and the brochure is 2006 or something like that.

I think we are seeing a little bit of this because, when I talked to Geoff early on, he told me that they didn't have a particular year model, but they were a mix of years.  I think some are getting 2005 and some are getting 2006 based on size ordered and what is left.  Mine has Mirage shifter and front Derailers and Xenon rear derailer.  I was one of the first people to respond to the e-mail(they answered the phone right away).

That being said, I have completed the minor changes to my Parma and he is ready to roll.  His name is Mr. Walker, but I will allow you to call him Herchel.

Speaking of names.... I named mine Zero (nightmare before Christmas) ... BEFORE it arrived and I realized all the carbon parts had "ZERO" stamped all over them after it got here.

Kinda spooky.
