Champion 7546 Santa Cruz, California | Subject: RE: Team Lively Lava I guess I should tell you a bit about myself. I am 50 years young, married to an incredible man, and have a SUPER amazing daughter!!! I AM BLESSED! I was very athletic growing up...played softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ultimate frisbee on a coed team that traveled around the world playing in tournaments, raced mtn bikes almost every weekend for 8+ years...til I retired about five years ago FROM ALL ACTIVITIES and gained LOTS of weight, began smoking... That changed just recently when I got some really tragic news in November of last year. I had a family member who passed in an ironman competition and even though I could barely walk down the aisle at her funeral...I vowed to do triathlons in her honor...I could not believe how amazingly supportive the tri family was at the funeral and the weeks to come. I was told that she used to use this site, so here I am! OBTW - I QUIT SMOKING COLD TURKEY DECEMBER 31st 2007~and have never had another puff!!! YAY!!!! nasty things!!!! I have yet to do a tri! My first is at the end of this month! and then two weeks later I go down to San Diego to do one with my dauther! I have lost forty lbs since I joined BT! YAY! I am in need of swim motivation....I am a bit scared to do an OWS! and have yet to do one! I need to do an OWS before May as that tri is an oly and we swim in the bay...my first tri is a sprint and it is in a pool, so I am fine with that! My biking I feel pretty strong - since I used to race mtn bikes...but I am still much heavier then I was then...so hills are not as easy as they used to be! I can not believe that I can now run up to twelve miles....when I could barely walk due to knee pain just four months ago and I used to chain smoke! I try to send daily inspires, but have found that as I get more into this, that I am getting bombarded with messages and need to make sure I have the time to train and the time to spend with the DH...so, I may not be quite as good with inspires, but I will at least send a weekly one! I guess Beth (tinkerbell) and I will be captaining this team. I hope I do not let you down! Looks like a great team and I look forward to getting to know all the new people! ok enough rambling.....GO TEAM LIVELY LAVA!!! |

Looks like a great team and I look forward to getting to know all the new people! ok enough rambling.....GO TEAM LIVELY LAVA!!! Wow, Julie - that's an amazing story! Great job on quitting smoking and loosing all that weight! I was also a formerly-active/athletic-person-who-stopped-being-active-and-gained-a-lot-of-weight... I guess I've lost somewhere around 30 lbs. since I started this tri journey. I still have another 5 or so I would like to let go, but those last few pounds seem to be a little more stubborn... I think it's so awesome that you're going to do a tri with your daughter! I would like to encourage my kids to try a kids tri sometime. My oldest might be ready to give it a shot this summer. It would be good for him -- he's the kind of kid who would prefer to sit inside and read a book (or play a video game) than go outside and play, so encouraging him to try a tri would be fantastic. I guess it's time to get to work, team -- GO LIVELY LAVA!! |

Extreme Veteran 322 Reston, VA | Subject: RE: Team Lively Lava Wow, April 1 and we're already on page 10! The real question will be whether or not I can keep up with the thread this month, haha. Anyway, intros... My name is Caitlin, and I'm a college student. I was a rower in high school which kept me in awesome shape but I burned out by graduation. Spent freshman year of college playing ultimate frisbee but let that go when I decided to tri. I'm one of those people who races as a way to keep me training, so in 2 years or so I've done two sprint tris and a half marathon, with the possibility of an oly this year. Like a few of you above, I've been swimming since practically before I could walk - that said, I don't swim much for most of the year because I need all the time I can get running and biking. I'm slow on the bike but consider the run my major limiter. I WILL convince my body that it likes to run! I'm looking forward to the multisport challenge because every time I do a challenge in a single discipline I neglect the others. This month I'm going to run 50 miles AND bike 150 miles, with some focus on core/strength training as well. Happy April, everyone!! |

(I took lessons before my first one.) I'm starting to enjoy swimming. It is really hard for me, though. Cycling is fun! I'm looking forward to getting outside a little more.
