Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL TriGirl---- I am glad to hear that you are nervous. This makes the joy of when you kick butt feel even better!!!! I highly recommend that you look into buying something like this: http://www.personalbestnutrition.com/cgi-bin/pbn/scan/st=db/se=Salt... It doesn't make the heat any easier, but it AID'S IN THE PROCESS BIG TIME!! Sweat is salt, and in the heat/humidity you will lose a lot of salt. Depending on the length of my races, and the heat of the day I usually take about 3 every hour (AND I AM NOT A BIG "SWEATER"), so it wouldn't hurt to pop a couple before the start of the race, a couple midway through the bike, and a couple 1-2 miles into the run...... HOWEVER DO NOT TRY THEM ON RACE DAY... Try them out before if you can! I don't think they will hurt you much on raceday (having never tried them before), but you always want to stick w/ what you know on race day! Hope this helps and is not too confusing?! |

Member 31 NYC, NY | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL tahrens- WOW!! Thanks. Being with TNT over the last year (St Anthony's 2007, Westchester 2007 trained but couldnt compete and now CAPTEX) (I did St Anthony's 2008 on my own) has been the most amazing experience. I know the Tri community hates TNT at the events but the training, the coaches and the people are what makes it worthwhile. They intertwine your training with connections to the cause via small personal speeches from honor teammates (survivors who train and compete with you), trips to the local hospital and so much. The types of people you meet are amazing. I have met a group of people that I know I will have for a long time. We are part of our own Tri Team ( called TriTrain) and thier experience, mentorship and commraderie is what gets me through it all. I HIGHLY suggest something like it if you dont do TNT. I can't vouch for the KY chapter but I am sure that they are great too!!
Thanks Again Jess Edited by Trigrl 2008-05-20 12:45 PM |

Because its kown that they hate the TNT'er because they are often the largest group with the most inexperienced Team. They get in the way of the more experienced athletes who complain. They call us amoungst other things the purple monsters. |

Veteran 110 Calgary | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL So I might have done something stupid....I I was talking with my trainer/frient this morning and he said he was going to sign up for IM Canada for 09, then I said I would do it with him. Oops did I say that out loud? I am sure I can do it, the problem is that I have yet to do a race (first one in a few weeks) and I am basically off the couch this past November. I have great success with my training so far and plan to do an Oly in Aug, but would this be too soon for a full IM? Thought or comments. I totally want to do one, just not sure if I would be jumping the gun.... |

If you can get to a local bike shop, or GNC before your PM run tomorrow, and buy a bottle of any of the suggested then try them out on that run (even if it is cold, and your run is short). It is more to see if you get an upset tummy (WHICH I WOULD BE TOTALLY SHOCKED--THEY ARE NOT SOME FANCY PILL, IT IS JUST SALT--- NO TASTE TO THEM). If not tomorrow then for your easy spin on Thursday... Salt in Gatorade--- NO WAY... That wouldn't taste too crappy.... Interesting article about Gatorade (sorry Gatorade fans)... http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/2007/02/13/is_gatorade_bad_for_yo... |

I have a friend that is doing Canada this year with me, and HE HAS NEVER DONE A TRI IN HIS LIFE!! I also have another friend doing Ironman Kentucky this year, and he has never done a TRI, NOR EVEN AS MUCH AS A 5K RUN! The only words of advice I have for you is the conversation you need to have with your family about the COMMITMENT YOU ARE ABOUT TO MAKE, both time wise, and financially (even the cost of your nutritionist, and grocery bill goes up!)..... |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL What is your cadence with running? It should be about 90 left foot fowards just like your bike cadence. The turnover is probably more important than the stride length. Also if you are going to increase heal strike, lengthening stride probly wont help ya much. Its the takeoff and landing thate are key I have read, but put it up for the gurus 8). |

Do you have the same issues in the pool? I guess you could say I am a TI swimmer, I took a 2 day workshop and have been dutifilly (SP?) doing my drills for the last few months. I did get faster but it takes some time to get the technique down. Still have a long way to go, hopefully TI will get me there, but if not will just go back to a more traditional workout. If you can I would try to get someone to video tape you, it is amazing what you look like in the pool. I thought I was pretty flat ----- in the pool and I looked more like this / when I looked at myself on video at the workshop. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Well, I just signed the hubby and myself up for one more sprint before the big O in september. We are doing the General Smallwood Tri in Indianhead MD (the sprint, not the international) at the end of June. 820m OWS, 16miles bike, 5K run. First OWS race so we thought it would be good practice before the olympic. I am scared to death! Guess I need to buy a wetsuit and find some open water to swim in. Ben, we had joked about doing this together................are you still interested? I need a second job to pay for my triathlon addiction!!! This is getting expensive! |

Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Morning all, Well I got back to it this morning after being sick and swam 1200 at the gym. I felt really strong and was able to breathe bilaterally for the entire workout. That is a first for me. Previously, I'd only be able to swim bilat for 100-150 coming out of rests and then would revert to left-side only. Today though my stroke felt nice and slow, I was really balanced in the water and I was getting much better rotation when breathing on the right - it was like everything clicked.

I am going to sound really stupid but maybe i didnt understand the point of the article. I use gatorade ONLY for race day. Other than that I use water. I have tried various other sport nutrition drink and dont like the taste. (gatorade is not bad when diluted). The article from what I could tell was for people using it as everyday short training sessions or lounging around the house.... right!! So what im doing is ok or not ok? Thanks for the helpful tips. Ill try it tonight at the run (if it doesnt rain) or tomorrow on the bike. There were three different types of pill on the website. do you have a preference?

I am a preety decent swimmer and have improved with a TI coach I saw for a little while. I have this crazy whip like kick (for my two beat kick) that I cant seem to undo. I was told that I probably brought it over from my days on the swim team and flutter kicking. Has anyone heard of any drills to undo this? rotate more.. etc. Attached is a video form a while back... dont laugh |
