Enders,  Since you are trying to clean out peoples stashes, you and hubby come to Vegas you can clean my stash.  There is wine, Tequila, brandy, rum, Chivas, etc...

What? No 151??? What kind of lush are you?

Hi Skinnies, just to let you know that the conference (IVACS) is mad busy and I'm loving every minute of that. Still can't decide which race to do- all comments/advice welcome- sign ups start Sunday.

I know other people have said to do this race or that race (as far as length is concerned). If I were you, I would choose the race ,that given your current level of athletecism, is just one step above it. Reason is, I would think that if you were going to a race in which it was too easy there would be no point to the race. Find one that is just outside your comfort level, so that the race is a little challenging. This will help you grow, and succeed, and should plant firmly the spirit of TRI in your heart.

found a fab new healthy recipe.

Cannellini & Sweet Potato Casserole

2 onions, chopped
450g sweet potatoes, chopped into chunks
2 leeks, sliced
2 red peppers, chopped
2 tins cannellini beans (300g) plus their liquid
1 400g tin peeled or chopped tomatoes with their liquid

Put all the ingredients in a pan and bring to the boil. Cover and simmer for 15-20 min till the sweet potato is tender it looks as though there's not much liquid but as long as you cover the pan there's plenty

i'm eating it for the first time tomorrow with some sausages - yes richmond irish ceade! will report back

Sappho,  Except for the onions, leeks, beans, tomatoes, red peppers and sweet potato it sounds great.

Now what sounds good is pork chops with about 1/8 inch slices of apples on top sprinkled with cinnamon.

Without going to the Salmonella scare lately, I usually slice a tomato and lay that across the top of my chops... Drizzled (lightly with Olive oil and some oregano) Delishhhhhh!

I think this is going to be your first race?  Am I right?

Anyway, my opinion is that you should pick a race for which you feel MOSTLY confident.  And, check the cut-off times.  You want to make sure that you will be able to finish within the cut-off times.  It is really stressful when you are not only racing your competitors but the clock.

I guess, basically, pick a race that seems within your ability level and train like a demon for it - then on race day go as fast as you can, and hopefully you'll be stoked about your performance, which is exactly where you want to be.

I think sprint distance are a lot of fun and not too hard especially for your first few times out.

I wanted to note that this has been a very trying year for, even the best of us. Between Abbie's pup, and enders' dad, and comets' father a few months back...

My contribution to earth going to hell in a hand basket.... last night I got a call from a dear friend who's been having a really tough time with life recently... My friend moved to California with her folks last year, and things just hit the fan. Her dad is a diagnosed schizophrenic, and her mom is bipolar, so genetically she's always wondered if she hit the genetic equivalent of the jackpot! Two months ago she was in a semi-committed relationship where the guy was cheating on his girlfriend to try to make her jealous. My friend got pregnant and eventually decided to get an abortion. But just after the procedure, things took a turn for the worst... She had a psychotic break and Schizophrenia has now taken it's nasty grip of her (paranoid delusions and hallucinations). And two wks ago she attempted suicide. So, last night was the first night I was able to talk to her and start the attempt of forming the social and family network that she'll need for the rest of her life. It was strange, to say the least, to understand how normal I thought we all were, and then to see what a drastic change can do to a person. I feel like I have a lot on my plate, i.e. school, family, work, training/health, and then friends, and I'm wondering if I was brought to this lifestyle, especially considering my past with physical obstacles, if not to bring some sort of experience to the table. I hope that the "skinny's" far and wide understand that having perseverence in life and certainly obtainable goals isn't lost in those few days of wavering motivation. It takes a lot to be determined and to want something so bad, but it says much more for having stuck with the program, in TRI'ing, in training, in commitments to family, and most certainly in life. If what it takes is to step back (like a fly on the wall) and realize how good life really is, and then to notice the small things that make life all the more better, then realize this... We will waver from time to time. Just be sure of what your really training for, and that is... a place on this earth, a place to call home (team skinny), or a home to surround yourself with. So if any of you find yourself teetering on the brink of stagnation, consider this... IT COULD BE WORSE!!!

Very well said Josh and sorry about your friend.  There are many things in life to deal with to even imagine that we won't falter or even fail now and again.  Failure justs means you are trying.  For many if not all of us we are trying something we may never have thought we could accomplish.  It may be being skinny (lose weight) or being an athletic (Triathlete) or it may be that Triing just kind of balances the other parts of our lives and makes them just a bit better.  Life is like the facets of a diamond in that if any one part gets neglected it effects the shine on the whole.  In the many decades I have been around I have found that I don't always end up where I am going, but I always end up where I should be.  I do the best I can at whatever I do and be the best me I can be.  To many that may not be good enough,  but to the few that it is (my wife, kids) I have succeeded.

My Team Skinny family is important to me and I wish you all successes in your attempts, but remember the attempts are just as important as the successes.

Okay,  No more attempts at deep thought,  I will leave that up to Josh.

Thanks guys. That was exactly what I needed to hear today. After the tri suit debacle I experienced last week, I was ready to throw in the towel. So, I'll keep tri-ing.

Countdown to my first tri: 7 days.

Conference over and I'm totally wrecked but it was great.

SO I signed up for my first Tri- decided to go for women's mini one (300m-6km-2km)- I know it's the tiniest tri ever but I kinda don't feel I could manage a Sprint distance this year, not with the way my training looks (or rather doesn't look) now. Then again if I feel I can do more there's other Sprint races in August and September.

Josh- so sorry about your friend

hey hey peeps

i've properly climbed back on the weight loss wagon today! i've updated my weight loss ticker to vanish my old losses and add a new overall target of 139. this may be a bit low and i may stick at 143 but i don't know about anybody else but i was using the fact i'd lost over 10 pounds as an excuse to not make any effort.

make sense? have cooked some really healthy things for the next few weeks, and yes saling the bean and sweet potato stew was delicious!

Alright, I woke up this morning and weighed myself twice, just to make sure... First was 187.6, and the second was 187.2. I'm taking the middle ground--187.4 !

Ceade--good job, just stick with it.

Sherm-- It's alright, just don't give up trying...

Sappho-- good goals, now let's crush it!!!

Saling--thanx for the encouragement... P.S. my friend and her family have decided to move back to ohio, in early August, so that she can be amongst family and friends, cause as it is, they've no real support structure for her.

I have returned from my beach vacation! I only had a few drinks, ate fairly reasonably, and did a little bit of exercise.

I have a question: since I was at the beach, I did do a short OWS. I didn't think the waves were that big, but after swimming for a while...I started to feel kind of sea-sick.....has that happened to anyone else? How bad would that be....to get seasick in the middle of a tri!!!

I am trying to plan out my week as far as what I want to accomplish exercise-wise.

Kristen- I'm glad you made it home safely.
Josh- so sorry to hear about your friend.
