Jul 24 - Stage 18 - BURGHARDT WINS SPRINT DUEL FOR COLUMBIA’S FIFTH TOUR STAGE

A powerful acceleration gave Marcus Burghardt his first victory of the 2008 season and Columbia’s FIFTH (!!) stage win in the 2008 Tour de France. At the end of a long break, the German comfortably outpowered Spaniard Carlos Barredo in a two-way battle for a convincing stage victory at St. Etienne.

Hey Scott with the challenge you put forth for yourself you would have a lot to do with that alone. Life certainly has a way of getting in the way of training

Last day of the challenge.
Amost everyone is in Paris already.

Scott has the minutes and just needs 2 stages to complete. 2 X 15 minute rides will complete that.
Roni just 1 stage left of 6.5 miles
Jeni just 1 stage 7 points required
Michele. I am not sure if I have entered all your stages. Could you confirm to me and I will make sure it is up to date. The chart has you at 9 stages @ 206.5 miles

Patricia, The google doc is showing you as having completed 9 of 10 stages. I think if I remember correctly that the stages count for 1/2 the total and the distance/time count for the other 50%. There must be something wrong with the formulae as it does show you as being over 100%.
Kenny. Nice going a couple of extra stages completed.

Robyn didn't you have a tri yesterday. How did it go?

Heidi, also great work throwing in the extra stage for the team.

Let's finish this off. We can do it as a team adn all be in Paris together

GO TEAM COLUMBIA GO!!!!!!!!!!

(I would have put that in great big red letters but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.)

Hey team, I just checked and we are in the lead, but just barely.

No, I didn't have a tri yesterday. I did have a 5K run. Thanks for asking. I did so-so and really need to figure this stuff out fast. My first tri will be in September and right now I am very discouraged with my progress.  I also need to get in the water but the lake is not swimmable now due to algae bloom and no pools with in range. We need rain!

Have great rides all and  we will save champagne for all!

The TdF Challenge will be over soon. So how are you going to stay motivated NEXT month? Interested in another challenge?

There is a "Casual Challenge" planned for August. You can set goals for RUNNING and/or SWIMMING and/or BIKING and/or OTHER (strength, yoga, etc) and/or WEIGHT LOSS. (You may sign up for ANY or ALL of these goals.)

There will be no teams (unless we get a lot of people signing up, then I'll split the group). It's just a friendly challenge to help people achieve their workout and weightloss goals.

Click below to read about the August challenge, or sign up for it:

Yes, stages count 50% and distance/time count 50%.  Because my stages was 45% complete and time was 56% complete, it calculated to over 100% even though only 9 of 10 was complete as of yesterday.   In any case, I completed my last stage today, and now is 119%.

Hi Team,

Just a reminder this is the final day of the TDF challenge - I hope everyone has enjoyed themselves

There has been a little confusion over how the final results will be calculated so from the original thread with the challenge rules here are the details :

"The winning team will be determined by the overall % of goal amount of stages and % of distance/time achieved by the team. (each goal counts for 50% of your overall goal achieved)"

What this means is you cannot achieve more than 50% from with of your totals... I havent had any requests for clarification sent to me but i thought I better just remind everyone!

Results will be up in the next couple of days, so just make sure your team spreadsheet is up to date

Ok, I am ready to ride on some flat roads for a while!!!

Did my last stage today and it felt great! Went out with a friend and we raced some cars around Stanely Park, flew up some big inclines in North Vancouver, sailed down some hills and while we didn't have croissants... we did have the best donuts in the vancouver area

And my friend is admittedly weak on hills so it was fun dropping him pretty badly on each and every one He told me next time we do a long climb I should bring a book to read at the top while I wait for him But he's in for doing repeats with me in the future and he's an AMAZING runner so one day when we decide to put the sneakers on he will return the favor.

It looks like we have all made it Paris!! Congrats!!! and Team Columbia has finished strong and will be primed for funding and support for next year which is awesome!!! CONGRATS TEAM!!!
