Anyone an actuall fan of winter??????  Not me.

I am so not a fan of cold weather!  It hurts me physically when it's cold out...I just hate hate hate it.  If my mother wouldn't stroke out on me, I think we'd move back to Florida

I'm headed out now to get my POG point for the day with a lunchtime swim

cori_smelker - 2008-11-18 4:03 PM Glad to see we're winning! I never did find out how my team from last month did.

Well I have been strength training here at home, sans the weights, but I really really need the weights. it was fine for the first month or so after I had the baby and could barely do a lunge or a squat. But today I went to Gold's Gym (free 7 day trial) and worked out with weights and I need them! My workout was so cool. BUT, I am quite tight on $$$, and they want $45 a month. The other gyms that I know of (franchise owned gyms) are all expensive too. Does anyone know of a chain that is cheap? Or, if you live in San Antonio, do you know of a gym here that is not too expensive? I live on the north-central/north-east side of town.

What if I bought a bowflex? Do those systems work? Help an amateur out here please!

IMHO you don't need a gym.  You can run outside and ride outside too.  Do situps, core workouts, etc.  I am guessing you could find an inexpensive pool to swim in as well.

Do you have a used sports equip store there?  Or you could check ebay or craigslist.  We have a store called Play It Again Sports and I bought a used (but barely) lifecycle for cheap.  Same for a used treadmill.  And you could find a ball to do sit ups on, free weights, etc.  Spread the purchases out.  All of this could use all at home while your baby is napping.

Get creative!  Good luck and keep working out!

It's freezing here!!!  With the wind chill, it's in the teens!  Eek!  Liam doesnt' have school so I won't be running outside today.  Okay, let's be honest, I wasn't going to anyway!  Too cold for me!  I'll brave the weather tomorrow!  Anyone an actuall fan of winter??????  Not me.

GA winters are excellent for running once you take that first step.  So yeah, I'm a fan of winter for running.

But biking - that's another story!  I do bike outside all winter, but some days it's just NO fun!  It's amazing what we put ourselves through for the sake of fitness!

Got my POG point today with an (indoor) spinning class at the crack of stupid.

Hey fellow POG's. Pretty nippy today here in Mass! I went for a four mile run. The first .5 miles were very cold but fine after that. I followed this with a swim workout. POG point done !
I would much rather run in the cold than the heat!

Hi Peeps! I, aquagirl, am pleased to announce that I went swimming today!!!! Seem to have developed an aversion to the water lately so this is a big deal. Good for a POG point. Might follow up with a run later. Keep up the great work everybody.

Hi fellow POGsters!

Nice job getting the workouts in. I am glad our teammates are feeling better.  Since we have this week and next before the challenge is done if anyone hasn't put in for their bonus points now is the time.  We are allowed to have 2 extra workouts count towards points during the month. I think it has to be a seperate day not just a longer workout but I'm not sure.

It looks like, unfortunately, I won't be able to get my extra point this week either.  This just means that I have no choice but to find some alternative next week with Sam ~ that's assuming Mike will be going to his class 2 nights in a row again.  I will get my 5 this week and will start coming up with something for next.  I'm thinking a friend of mine will be coming with me to the pool whether she wants to or not!

As for winter, since you always want what you can't have, guess what that means for me?  Yup, you guessed it...I miss all four seasons.  Let me rephrase that...I like Colorado's 4 seasons.  I love winter there because even when it's snowing, the sun is ALWAYS shining which means it's warm and the snow is melting as it's falling!

Don't forget that it's 30 minutes of any combination of activities- so a short jog with the stroller and doing so strength training at home would definitely count.

That's a good point!  I think I get tunnel vision sometimes and in this case it seems as though I have it in my head that it has to be 30 continuous mins of aerobic something or other.  Thanks!!

Don't get me wrong...the weather here is awesome!  I think I just miss "home" ~ being back in the mainland puts me a bit closer to family or at least puts me closer to cheaper plane tix!

Sigh.  Still waiting to get my point for today.  Liam has pink eye now.  No school for him.  That means no YMCA either.  Hoping Bryan will get home at a normal hour tonight so I can swim.  If not, I'll be running at some ungodly hour.  I think I will get up early tomorrow and get my run done early!!  No more waiting around!

As long as all goes well, I will get to go to cycling class tonight.  Since Mike is now spending 3 days a week at school (and one of them is on Sat morn when I normally go to cycling class) I asked if there was any chance of him getting off early tonight so that I could go to the gym.  Guess what?!  He said as long as no emergencies pop up, he will be home by 4:30!  Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!

Well, no swim or run.  But I did manage to drag Liam around with me for a stroll through the neighborhood.  Not ideal but oh well, it still counts!  I'm getting up at the crack of stupid to run in the morning!  Don't be jealous!

I'm up at 5:30 each morning for my training. I share your pain but I'm quite used to it by now.

Nice work fellow POGs.  I started going to my local Y at 8:30 or 9 pm when my kids were little since that was the only time I could get there. Now I am so used to exercising at night that I have trouble getting out in the morning.  I am just happy I still keep going! TGIF in 90minutes (I just got back from the Y)

Got my POG point!  Up at 5:00 and out!  It was cold this morning!  I got in just under 2 miles and came home to thaw out!  Okay, it wasn't that bad but it was cold.  Took a bit to warm up.  I need to figure out a different early morning running route.  Maybe one that is well lit???  Yikes, it was a bit creepy out there!

I've started running with a headlamp. Without it I'm limited to very few route choices and it get boring.

Got my POG point with a morning swim. Actually, I've already logged 5 points this week and I can't get any more extra credit!

I'll have to look into that! Is it bulky at all??

I finished up the pilgrim hat cookies I was making for Liam's class party this morning.  Stinks he can't go to it!  Made apple crisp for it too.  Oh well, at least I won't be tempted to eat any of it since we won't be there!  Silver lining for me!

I'm using a Petzl Tikka Plus headlamp. It's fairly light and comfortable. There are other, similar ones out there.

What's inside the hat?
