Who learned something new? I was able to get a few good workouts in even though I spent a great deal of time cutting down trees, hauling firewood, etc. etc. I lost 4 pounds and 0.6% of bodyfat during the week, so I'm pretty happy with that. What I learned is that my butt is out of bike shape. I need more T.I.T.S. (time in the saddle)! |

New user 45![]() | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's mentor group - FULLThanks to everyone that posted comments on my training log. It's great to know I have support and am not in this alone! This weekend was my annual family snowboarding trip. We went to Silver Mountain just outside of Kellogg, ID and boarded Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It was awesome! While there wasn't any new snow it was sunny and absolutely beautiful out......a little taste of springtime it felt like. I will post some pics sometime today. Thanks again. I really appreciate it! |

I wanted to get in here one last time before leaving Fri - but got called into a surprise meeting at work that left me cutting it close to even get to the airport. I'm at work now, so I only have a few minutes, but I will be back in the next couple days with a full race report . . . gotta get unburied first! I had an AWESOME race! I don't think it could have gone much better. I didn't quite make my dream goal (sub-2 hours), but that was quite a bit beyond my usual training and the reason it was a "dream" goal Well - that's the quick update - gotta get back to work now. Thanks again for your support!!! Renee

I have the same "over the moon" goal for the ING 1/2 end of March but would be happy with 2:05! |

Regular 76![]() ![]() ![]() Lawton / Fort Sill, OK | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's mentor group - FULLDoes anyone else find it easier to run after biking? By that I mean, getting up to speed, not feeling as winded, etc? Don't get me wrong, I feel the effect in my legs from cycling, but my lungs seem to take in air easier and knees aren't creaky (is that a word?). Is this because the body is already warmed up? I think that may be it. Any ideas? |

I've read about the buoyance and thought that might be an advantage. Why do some high level pros use "neutral buoyancy suits"? Stadler, Macca, Alexander... Those would be 'skinsuits'. They don't help with buoyancy but instead reduce a swimmer's drag. This really only works if you already have good form. A wetsuit might reduce your drag (and make you faster) by helping you float. A skinsuit makes you "slippery" in the water. If you have poor form and you drag your lower body, a skinsuit won't help you. One more benefit: they don't hold in heat like a wetsuit so they're USAT legal at all water temps. I only see a few of them at smaller races, but they're on everyone at bigger events. Blue Seventy sold every single skinsuit they brought to IMKY in '07 when the officials announced it wouldn't be a wetsuit legal swim 2 days before the race. When you use a skinsuit, do you forgo a bike pad? Or do you switch out some clothing in T1? Or do you wear tri-shorts under the skinsuit? |

Or do you switch out some clothing in T1? Or do you wear tri-shorts under the skinsuit? Just take it off in T1 like you would a wetsuit. Ok, so you wear your tri-suit underneath the skinsuit? Or I found some speedsuits that have pads in them, so I would assume you wear this suit throughout (is an Oomph! suit). I am thinking through faster transitions for this year, and was going to change what I raced in (was taking the time to put on a cycling shirt in T1). Any suggestions on clothing? I agree. I've never changed out of/in to anything during a race except shoes. I'm partial to my 2XU one piece (see avitar) and my standby DeSoto shorts and assorted tops. Too hard to put on clothes when you're wet!!! |

Member 29![]() Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: JeepFleeb's mentor group - FULLI'm glad this subject came up because I've been wondering something. I joined the local triathlon club and have a uniform (a 2-piece sugoi trisuit). How much running/cycling/swimming should I do in the suit before my first race day? I know I definitely don't want to go out for my first race with no miles on the suit....just curious. By the way, thanks to all of you who checked up on me while I have been sick. I ran a very leisurely 3 miles a couple of days ago and felt great. I'm ready to get this thing cranked up again.

Glad you are back! I got back tonight, and feel re-energized after my swim tonight. Probably test the knee on the trainer next week and someday soon get some running in too. |

As little or as much as you want. When I run I run 95% of the time in running shorts, when I swim in the pool I wear jammers. When I bike I wear trishorts. I had bike shorts, but never found them as comfortable as trishorts. I would get some mileage in your suit to make sure it fits, is comfortable and doesn't chafe. Otherwise wear what is comfortable for training. |

Just figured it may need to be broken in like a new pair of shoes would.... As Aaron wrote, you probably want to try it out to make sure there's no hot spots. You might try a swim/bike brick so you see what it feels like wet. When picking one out, I found the sizes to be wildly different between brands. I only wear my 2-piece for races; I figure it's not really designed to be worn more than a few times per year. |

Go as small as possible. |

I was out of commission with a cold last week but I think I'm finally over it. With a little scheduling luck, I'll be heading to Florida for a couple of weeks next month. It's -10 at my house right now, so even the "cold" weather in Florida would be a welcome change. |

I thought I had kicked it last thrusday but it came back with a vengence. Back to the schedule today though. Great job everyone on the workouts! I'll continue to catch up. JF Aaron - Here's question: When out with an injury/illness, where should one pick up in their training plan. As if it never happened or where you left off? I had a good base of fitness when I started.... |
