I am also doing New Orleans 70.3 as a warm up race (and actually my first HIM).  I've always just done local, driveable races before so this will be a big adventure.  It just fit in so well - New Orleans is near the top of the list of places we'd like to visit in USA (we're from UK but live USA now) AND it's at the start of Spring Break week for the kids so the whole family will join me for a vacation afterwards

I have only one other planned tri - a sprint in early June.

Question, are people bringing their family as well?

We make it a family vacation... My wife and 2 daughters come with me and we stay from Wed.-Wed.
Generally I like to lay low with the family beforehand.

James (tasr) and Bob (Rstocks) and myself did some running/swimming and biking before the race. Jenn (GPS) also swam with us before.

There are some great kid things to do in LP that we do on the Monday-Tuesday after the race.

1. Whiteface Mountain. We drive up and go up the mountain elevator to see beautiful views of the area.

2. The North Pole. this is where you get to ahev Breakfast with Santa in July, and then they have a (not cheap$$$) very fun theme park with rides also. My kids LOVED that (ages 4,7).

yes!...my wife and 3 boys (2, 4, 6) are coming...mom and aunt are coming Sat and sunday.

me and the kids will be there Thursday, leave Wednesday AM

First time we did a long weekend for LP and the family drove up with me for the Weds - Mon.  However they just (understandably) wanted to sight-see and I ended up doing a lot more walking around and entertaining kids than was ideal when I should have had my feet up!
I mentioned that they are not really interested in tri's (though hubby IS supportive) so I usually race alone now, which is fine.  However this year my parents maybe visiting from the UK (coincidental on dates) in which case we will probably book a cottage or something further out for the week after - and if they want they have the option of coming to see the race on the Sunday.

New Orleans 70.3 - April
Eagleman - June

Assuming my foot doesn't snap in half at IMLP I'm also doing IMWI in September. Fun year.

wow that sounds like fun!

We'll see how fun I really think it was on September 13 I am pretty excited, it will be quite a year for me. That's why getting past this injury is so important!

We went and visited AuSable Chasm in 2008 after the race. I must say I was very impressed as it was just beautiful. The kids loved it as well.

I'll be coming in with my wife and three kids (5,4,3)....Since we’re coming in from Japan for our one and only visit during our 3 year tour we’ll be having a mini family reunion up there.  We got a sweet little house that is right on the run/bike course and looking at the view from the pics and map they might be able to see the swim.

Are you in the Military?  What day are you arriving at LP?  I think I am arriving Wednesday.  Last year a group of us would meet up early at the Gatorade swim Thur - Sat.

My wife is a Navy Doc and we were sent to Okinawa this past January.  We'll be in the states early July and I plan on being up at LP early so I can meet all of you guys and enjoy the IM like I did with the BT'ers at IMFL  08.  It just wasn't the same without the BT crew at IM Japan.

We set up a decent crew that went to the Gatorade swim in '08.  Met about a dozen BTers that day.

Meeting up with the BTers at IMFL '08 really made my race.  So I hope to meet lots of you in person.  papson, I'm sure we met in Florida.  Glad you'll be at IMLP '10

tastes great!

swim will be tight for sure!

i'm just going to swim 5x/week and try and swim out front.....Laughing

I was thinking about the swim the other day, and really it seems you just have to pray its not you who gets kicked in the head....., not much else you can do......

there's gotta be a "sweet spot" at the start....I'm counting on the IMLP vets to share it with all the BTers!!!!!....Wink

Yep 5ft under water, the problem is breathing.  I started 5-8 back 20-25 from the dock in 09 got pulled under x2.  It’s a ruff start for sure.  I am looking at a new strategy for next year.

With 3,000 on the bike course, how will it be possible not to draft?

About half the local triathletes from my tri team and around my neck of the woods are signed up for LP.  It's going to be packed.  It just gives me more incentive to get better at swimming and biking.  Figure if you get out with a decent swim time, have a good first loop on the bike, you won't have to worry about draft packs until the second loop.
