jsnowash - 2009-10-07 6:10 AM I think maybe the spreadsheet wasn't completely up-to-date for the 1 week check-in.... I just looked now and it looked like we're at about 23% complete now. Keep up the good work, Punkins!

I think we're 23% through the month...the team average is still only at 14% of goal.  We do have a lot of zeros on the spreadsheet, though, so hopefully some people just haven't logged yet.

As for me, I've been training pretty lightly since Sunday, but I have two more runs planned this week and should be doing 3x/week from here on out.

Looks like some of you are really cranking out the miles - keep it up!!

jsnowash - 2009-10-07 6:51 AM Good job, Riley!! Got another 5 miles in this morning. Ran in a new pair of racing flats this morning! SWEET!! I really like the feel of less shoe.... anybody else moving toward minimalist footwear for running?

I've got the Vibram Five Finger KSO's that I am going to start using post IMAZ. After reading Born to Run I am convinced of the value of not using the modern control shoes. Even Nike has now reversed directions back to the 70's with their Free line (that are far from free cost!). My wife is now doing all her running in VFF's training for the Nov. Vegas marathon.

Just as a warning, Changes in run form need to happen reeaaally gradually or you risk injury.  I would not go more than 10% of weekly total in the 5finger shoes until you adjust (months or years) depending on how much.  I think Kathy can speak to this issue.  I read a post on the topic by her a while back.

Then again I jsut ran for 46 min for 4 miles using 5/1 splits and would have gone the full 60min but left my dog on her leash at the house and a nasty rain storm was moving back in so I cut it short.... but was pumped that was my furthest EVER! and beat my 5k time from Sat without even trying.....

Bao that hill is still giving me nightmares.

There is actually a hill like that near me and I am thinking about going to hit it up soon and beat the crap out of me on it! It sucks, but it feels oh so good after wards!!!

It is funny when you actually concentrate on form how much better everything is... run today when I ran with form it felt great, when I swim with form I feel more productive (although my lats disagree right now!).

MMMMM more foam roller MMMMMM

Now that's all hill! In Chicago we have overpasses over the highway as "hills" kinda sad. Makes training for IMOO a pain in the butt.

It is a half mile from bottom to top.  So I run up and jog down, 6-8 half mile hill repeats usually gets the heart rate up in a good zone.  I have an nice trail run too that climbs 800 feet over the first 2.5 ish miles.  The one bike ride is like 2k feet elevation gain over 12 miles with some steep inclines, but some flat sections and some downhill and the second one is really mean with a continuous incline with no flats for 10 miles for a 2k foot gain up, down the backside and then back up again.  Now I want to go take my camera out and take some picks.

That hurts just to look at, much less ride or run. No wonder you're getting so fast!

Short bike ride this morning, and then a 2.4mile swim at lunch. Might try and get a short run in after work before heading home tonight.

I haven't read details of the POSE method, but I have briefly read through Chi Running which I think is similiar. From my limited experience in trying to incorporate the technique, I think it's beneficial to reducing injuries. I have the concept down (or at least feel so), but really have to concentrate to maintain form.

I tried several different shoes most with alot of stability and cushioning and ended up liking Nike Lunar Glides best but they are not minimalist shoes. I recently got a pair of Vibram Five Fingers but not to run in. I did take a Chi Running class last month and two of the students wore VFF.

I changed the way I ran 3 year ago to more mid foot lander from heal striker when I was 44. I ended up with achillies tendinitis and later plantar fasciitis that I struggled with on and off for more than a year. Changing your running gait when you are older can cause injuries as your body adjusts to the new method. Funny I read that in a Friel book about a year after my issue arose.

Chi, pose and evolution running all have similar beliefs.

My warning is be careful changing your running style as it can cause you lots of issues.
